Differing Cultures

Relationship - A relationship between a girl and guy, particularly love is something I consider very high infact equivalent to realising God!

Hi everyone, I am new here and one of the most astounding things that skewed me into this Relationship section is the difference in cultures that i noticed here. Believe me i was raised up as a child and a teenager saying i should think of only one woman as my partner in life and anything and everything should be only after marriage (i hope u understand what i mean). I know most of u guys would be laughing ur stomachs out but believe me thats what it in my country atleast a few years back. But now i feel that i am some 100 years backward after coming to the West. Are the cultural differences so huge!! P.S. one post that shocked me was that which said father r***s his daughter. OMG not even in my wildest imagination would i have expected it to happens!!

What country were you raised in? I see from your profile that you are in Phoenix, AZ now- that's such a beautiful part of the U.S. Hold on to the ideals and beliefs that you were brought up with- they are a part of what makes you solid. Just because you see these things going on around you does not mean that you have to change to be like everybody else. You are not "backwards" at all. You were just brought up with some very decent moral standards. You are right, though; there are huge cultural differences between the east and west, and a lot of them are things that you do not want to adopt for you or your family. Hopefully you have a strong foundation of morals from your childhood and will not be tempted to give that up. But it sure must be a "culture shock" to see some of what goes on in the U.S. every day!

I am from the great INDIA. Sorry i get really emotional about my country that too when i am away from it and feeling so nostalgic. Yeah u r write it was a big shock for me. I had only seen these and heard on the television but to see it live is a totally different experience. But there is no way i can change cos if i change even a little bit my mom will kick me out of the house when i go back to India:)(jus kiddin).

I am from the United States, black female. Life might make you shocked, but embrace your goddess stature and plow through the bs. I think it is about women standing up.
