According to a recent news story, a wealthy Portugese man who was childless decided to leave his fortune to seventy strangers whom he selected at random by looking through a local telephone book. Wouldn't you love to become a wealthy man's heir out of the blue like that? LOL ^_^ More here: http://www.davesdaily.com/out.php?id=23636&url=http%3A%2F%2Fnews.yahoo.com%2Fs%2Fafp%2F20070113%2Fod_afp%2Fportugalwilloffbeat_070113213704

That would definitely be wonderful. I with someone would select me for such a purpose. I would love a couple million, or even a couple thousand, just out of the blue. I might be able to afford to fly to AZ to see my boyfriend, who is working there. Gee, I hope someone selects my name out of the phone book, and leaves me some money real soon. I guess I'd better start praying. Thanks for starting this interesting discussion.

Aw.. well, I may not be able to give you any free money, danishcanadian, but I did give you the 'best response' for this topic. I hope that that makes you smile a bit, even though it won't get you to AZ to see your boyfriend. I hope that you can see him soon, somehow! ^_^

There should be more people like this in the world. If I had a lot of money, millions, I would give some away as well. But I do have children who I have to think of first. I wonder who Oprah is going to leave her fortunes to.

Wow, that is a really honorable thought. To give so much away to charity. I applaud you for saying that! ^_^

You know my mother and I, have always dreamed of becoming rich and then handing money out randomly. Except we would go in low poverty areas to do it. I think it's kind of neat. What else would he have done with it? Good for him, someone with a great heart I think.

well, i do, some people are just lucky, but do u think that was a good choice, i mean he didnt know any of them, what if one of them is convict, i mean someone whos constantly in and out, i mean someone who would just waste the money in useless things, wouldnt it be better to leave that to charity, really help someone out. if i had no family at all i would leave my money to charity

This sure would be nice; maybe I'll have to consider putting my number and address back into the directory... Seriously, though, I have never won anything in my life, and I'm convinced that any money I'll ever have will be earned, but it's a nice thought. What a great thing for this man to do, though. Can you imagine the difference that he must have made in the lives of those 70 people?

This man should seriously be considered a hero. To me this is extremely touching and very uncommon. It proves although he was rich he wasn't greedy or selfish and i think that all 70 of those people should have a huge tribute to him of some sort!

The people chosen were indeed lucky. I wish I was that lucky. But he could have given it to more needy persons like charities, homeless people instead of just picking from the phone book. I can see his sincerity but still, I hope, that the ones chosen are really deserving.
