who is the altime greatest athlete

Who is the greatest and why? Did they do alot for thier sport or themselves?

I would say Carl Lewis is the greatest athlete because he won a lot of medals during his best time in Olympic long time ago.

Thats good for him but has he done anything for his sport or used it to promote good things for people?
