not reading entire discussion

Do you feel that people who only read the first line or two of a discussion instead of the entire discussion, and then post a biased or half answer based solely on the small portion of the discussion are as bad as people who spam? Do you feel that these people should be reported to mylot and their earnings and ratings effected because of this? It annoys me, and I have noticed this happening on several discussions, especially debates, people will read the first line or two, or choose a small portion of a debate to respond on, or post I don't know, too long to read, ect.. It really annoys me, and I feel that it is just as bad if not worse than spam, these people should be banned from mylot, or atleast given a warning, and if they continue be banned. How do you feel?

I hope we are talking about the innitial discussion that the author posts, not including the replies. When a post goes into the multi 10's of pages I'm afraid I do not read all the replies to the descussions before posting. I would never get any posts done at all.. lol. But I do agree that people should read the whole discussion before posting a reply or else why post at all?

yes I am implying the initial discussion, but in the user guidelines it states that you are supposed to read the responses, however in a discussion with 10+ pages, especially the ones with 30+ pages I sorta skim through the responses, reading some and browsing the others, but I always read the main topic of the discussion.

i've seen some people who do it and it is really annoying. so what i do is sometimes i answer back if they read the whole thing... and give them a negative rating as well.

I think a negative rating would be better in this case than using the abuse report button. Even though it is annoying that they do not read the statement entirely, it is not abuse in my opinion. There are worst things being done on here than not reading the discussion thoroughly and giving a partial answer.

I agree with you. We should report these people if what they end up posting contributes nothing to the actual discussion or debate. Most often you do have to read through the entire discussion to develop a well thought out reply. If someone had the nerve to post "too long to read" I wouldn't be able to resist leaving them an unpleasant comment... Reading and responding is what this place is about. Or so I thought. I do report to mylot and rate negatively if I get an "I don't know. God Bless YOu" type of response. I feel that I choose the discussions that I reply to carefully, being sure that I can contribute something; these people should do the same. Why should some of us put thought, time, and effort into posting when someone else earns the same amount for posting "I don't Know" over and over? I say make liberal use of the negative ratings and abuse buttons for these people!

thank you, I wondered if I was the only person who felt this way, lol, Im glad I am not, maybe if there are a few more we can diminish these people who just want money and who are not here for anything more. I just hope mylot has a way to keep people from re-creating their accounts once they are deleted.

I agree with you, because it is also a question of respect. I mean we don't want to work hard for nothing. We put our time and work for people to read and enjoy and to hope get back good answers, good quality answer that shows appreciation from others for our hard work.

i cant totally agree with you on this one, you see a discussion is when you discuss a topic, sometimes answer part of the question at a time. and its the over all postings that are supposed to create the ideas and answer, not one single person. but on the other hand sometime sif that question is simple as the answer 12 and they but down a one and didnt feel like answer ing by also putting down a two, yea i see your point there

It would be hard to determine if they've read the entire post, and only felt like responding to the first part of it. Or if they only read part of it. I don't know. I've had it happen to me, and it left me thinking, "Did you even read it!?" Lol These were mainly things that I posted in a "general" thinking. And I even said, "This did NOT happen to me! I do not need advice! What would you do in this situation?" I ended up getting SO many responses of people bashing me for things! Or giving advice that wasn't needed! Gah! I wanted to reach through the computer and smack 'em with the discussion! Lol =P

yes, and the better response they have and the more + ratings they get, which in the end is more earnings, as opposed to their quantity method, quality is always better

I dont think they should be reported. Mylot decides how much you get paid for reponses. So if someone is only reading a part of it then their response is probably really short and has no content. You are still getting your due. People are lazy. You cant expect everyone to do the right thing. I dont think there is a rule about not reading the whole discussion so therefore it may not change anything by reporting those people.

if you READ the mylot guidelines you will see there is something in there that says to read the whole discussion, as well as responses before posting a response.

Yes, I have noticed it. I think that the people who steal other people's responses or copy and paste unrelated junk are worse, but I definitely get your point. I don't think that it is wrong to just debate on part of a particular topic, however. After all, that may be the one area of the discussion that that person is knowledgeable about. It may not be that it is the only part that they read. Anyway, if these people are really abusing the system, of course they should be reported, as should all of the cheaters. I got one of those repsonses myself, the 'your post was too long for me to even read' kind. I laughed it off, but it really is rude of someone to do that. I need to make sure that i mark that person with a minus sign.

I can understand if they are only knowledgeble on one part or something, but you can honestly tell when they only read part of the discussion, especially when the entire discussion is on the same topic, but with different points being made, ect, and yes the spammers are aweful, but far less of them then there were 3 or 4 months ago.

yes they are, that is why I feel that these people should be reported, maybe mylot can send them a warning or something because they are clearly not following the mylot guidelines, and if they continue to not follow the guidelines they should be banned

Its true. You cant just go on sending responses after reading only few sentences. It should have some authenticity in it.There should be certain rules and regulations to prohibit such misuse of this site .It should not only serve as a medium to earn but also for some relevant discussions. Mylot should introduce some restictions to stop this. In anticipation of some action........

come on. that's a ridiculous rule. suppose i want to respond to your statement only, wht sense does it make to read all those 81 responses. infact if i do that then i m not givin u my original viewpoint. i m bound to be influenced by others' opinion.

It's an interesting topic to look at. I'm a new member here, and the first thing that popped up into my mind was "Free Money! YES!" My first couple of posts were spent finding some random topic that suited my fancy. I'll admit, some posts, I just skimmed though the first page to get a general sense of the discussion, then I'd speak my mind. Needless to say, I changed my philosophy after the first day. Anyways, I totally agree with you; it's not just about the money, it's more about the conversation and meeting new people, and it is the poster's responsibility to contirbute an answer that contributes something to the discussion. Along the same lines, I've noticed there are a lot of one-lined, clichéd posts that are just completely pointless and ruin the discussion for everyone. These posters should not earn as much as the people that bring actual opinions to the table. It would be awesome if I could participate in one discussion that was exclusively filled with powerful answers that make you think!

What do you understand the word "biased" to mean ?
• United States
15 Jan 07
once again someone posting off topic, but to answer your question I will give my view as well as the dictionary mean ing of the word bias.... when someone is only reading a portion of the discussion and generates their view of it by the one line they read...... bias- an unfair preference for or dislike of something Encarta ® World English Dictionary © & (P) 1998-2005 Microsoft Corporation. Yes I agree with you..I have also experienced some of the user who just answers the discussions by just reading the heading and guessing what it could have stored in the whole passage..this is very bad habits..and it gives rise to spammers..Yeah MyLot should be repoted about such users and they should be given warnings or should be banned..It helps in maintaining the quality of the community..and also to preserve its intigrity and quality..We should come forward in finding such guys who responses without reading the complete query and answering with some non-related views..

I don't know if anyone has noticed or not but most, not all but most, of the people who think that they shouldn't have to read the entire discussion have ratings of 6 or less, and the people who are annoyed by this have the higher ratings, hmmm it sure does show who is here simply for money, lol. We who are true quality posters should unite :)

But if there is 40 respond in front of me, how am I suppose to post a respond that address all 40 of them? Not only I have no problem with people posting responses that address only a portion of it. I think its the only logical thing to do. Therefore, I think there shouldn't be a rule on such matter.

not really post to all 40 responses but respond to the actual discussion not just the first line of it.

i totally agree with you , , i mean , , i have been posting discusions and yet people just respond according to the first few lines that they have read , , sometimes they just do not read the discussions at all , , they just pay attention to the title , , i feel irritated and annoyed about that , , you know , , we may rate those people as negative , , :-) but , , on the other hand , , i also think that mylot will should warn those people , , at least they know what they're doing doesn't impress others , , they're just doing this for the sake of money , ,darn

I don't mind the replies you know? But what I hate are crappy discussion topics. Like "do you like bread?" or "do you hate myspace?". That too comes in number two compared to discussions that start like this -- "I feel like I want to die.." So, I've made it a point to go around adding friends that posts only good discussions, so that I too can have fun while doing this.
