A person I knew faked his credentials and applied to be a seaman. He was so good at his job and he rose through the ranks till be become the ship's captain. Few years before optional retirement, one fellow country man, out of envy, reported the matter to the company. The man was dismissed with all benefits forfeited. I was just thinking that maybe this is a little unfair. Ok, he faked his credentials but since the company benefitted from his services too, the least they can do is give him the benefits or at least a reward after firing him. What do you think?

I do not think it is unfair. He cheated. The price he paid might be very harsh, but that is the price he has to pay for all those years of cheating. He destroyed the company's trust. He disobeyed the rules. Yes he had done his job well. But another guy who was qualified could have done the same or even better. Actually, It is not just the company that he cheated. He also robbed a qualified seaman of a great opportunity.

maybe it sounds unfair, but for me, that's reasonable, he pay the price for cheating. Don't you ever think that if he doesn't fake it, and somebody else that really have the real credentials needed are filling his positions, don't you think he'll do better better jobs and benefiting the company even more ? ... faking credentials are unfair for others that have the real ones and put a lot of efforts to earn it.

This is going to become a very popular topic as many people have padded their resumes and are now-after years of service-are being found out. Since the individual got thru human resources, shoudn't it be them who pay the price since they did not do their job and he (obviously) succeeded so well?

I also think that's a bit unfair. After all, he still did the work and earned those benefits. He must have been good at the job as well or he wouldn't have been promoted along the way.
