Under age drinkers everywhere!

I went to this show with some friends that was taking place on the Queen Mary (a large cruise ship)... It was supposed to be a Reggae show from what one of my college friends had said. When we got there, we walked up to the entrance and gave them our tickets, and no frisk, no questions about bringing weapons or drugs in (it felt really weird, because every concert I've been to they usually make an attempt to make it look like they care about security). So we moved on to get bracelets put on showing we were 21, and the lady just handed them to us! She didn't even put them on, we could have given them to anyone! So we wonder onboard and immediatley there is the smell of a reggae show, ganja... We headed for the bar and while wondering around, we kept seeing so many young people! We started commenting on some of them and it seemed like there were 200-300 drunk teens running around. Personally I don't care, because at 15 or 16 this would have been so much fun! I was just shocked that there were so many kids completely hammered and the security could care less! The show was terrible! The bands were terrible, and there wasn't a shred of Reggae... I hope this isn't what kids are going to start listening to, because I didn't like it and that might mean I'm getting old lol... We ended up drinking and people watching, which is always pretty entertaining! There were countless teens (and some over 20 I'm sure)flashing from the balconies while the bands played. How do event like this even come together? Are there just certain times and places when there are no rules? Underage drinking and drug use in a event for all ages... It was something I've never seen out of one of my family's functions, but that's a whole different story that I may touch on some other time!

So....why wasn't this stuff around when I was that age? That's not fair. Or did I just miss the memo? And did they pass out beads like Mardi Gras with all the flashing at least lol? And you're right...I got nosey and looked up who was playing, and so far one band is currently hurting my eardrums. I don't think it means you're getting old, they just suck. It's like a drunk verion of a Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute band almost, only worse. Scary... Seriously though, I'm pretty surprised they didn't get busted with all the Vice running around, especially on the weekends. Sheesh. Still, it would have been entertaining to at least watch. Nothing like little drunken teeny boppers (did I just use that phrase? Maybe I'm getting old..) dancing around like idiots. Fun! Wonder how many parents got p.o'd last night/this morning. Teehee.

No, no beads just drinks! I was just amazed that so many younguns were wasted and there were a few parents wandering about looking for their teens! Yeah, those bands did just suck lol! I guess if I was their age I would've gone no matter who was playing!

Oh yes normally when you go to a concert they like to check what you are taking in their with you. That is dreadful that the security did not stop them from drinking and this is no way to run any event there should be no drinking allowed we have stopped this in my country and I hope it stops in yours.

I don't have too much too add here. I just wanted to add that I started drinking at age 13-14, and I do believe it is becoming a problem. You see so many underage drinkers everyday and it leads to a lot of worse things.

I'm not sure why they drink, but they do and there's nothing I'm going to do about it! I guess maybe you could blame it on the parents!

In Australia the legal age for drinking is 18, but anything under that I believe to be inappropriate. Did you even think of reporting this to the police?

Yes, there are so many under age drinkers these days especially in our country where the laws are not implemented properly. Drinking can result into many issues like fights early pregnancy and all that. I hope the authorities would do their best and for the parents also.

That sounds like the kind of place I dreamed of when I was 17&18. I never left home without my fake id. now that I'm a mommy I feel alittle differenly about it. I mean part of the fun as a teenager was the feeling of getting away with something. I now know that rules and laws are there for our protection not as an inconvenience but I'm not one to crash a good party so party on!!!

Yeah, it's funny how our perceptions change... I'm really fine with all of this type of thing going on, because I'm sure they could just as easily be drinking somewhere else! I guess I was just surprised how relaxed everything was! I probably wouldn't want my kid going to something like it lol!

depending on where you are on cruises the age to drink is 18. My cousin went on a cruise when she was 18 to the bahamas and she was aloud to drink on the ship...

This isn't really a cruise situation, it's a boat that is permanently docked in the Bay in Long Beach, California... I'd understand if it was in some type of international waters!

i sometimes feel awkward when im in a bar drinking and see some teesn around. there are times when i feel like somebody should stop them. it sure is fun to break the rules and feel invincible. but at a certain point, you grow tired of all these. back in my teens, i went to all the parties, got drunk, got high and sometimes had to pay for all the mischievousness i did but it was sure fun. During that time, i thought if this is a mistake, its my mistake to make. i did learn a lot of things from my teenage years. if given the chance to go back, id do the same things cause it made me who i am today.

I was an underage drinker for about 5 years so I see no harm in that.
