I just thought of it, I hope nobody gets offended in this discussion.. A humor for everyone of us, and hope that we improve more of our capability to learn more english as we go along. With all the discussions posted here, a lot of people can't seem to understand in what grammar to use. Even me, I get a feeling of uneasiness and try to check if the words that I am using will be appropriate for the sentence. And of course, there are also others that have the same feeling as mine. What can you say about these grammatical errors? Your reactions/comments will be of good help for all of us to enhance our knowledge in english communications.

I teach students from all over the world, who have a working knowledge of English. My job is to educate these people further in the form of English that will be used by them, eg. Business English, University Entrance Test in English For Speakers of Other Languages (so, they can complete a degree), etc. English is the hardest language in the world to learn, because it has the largest vocabulary, more 'irregular' terms and verbs than any other, strange emphasis and grammar (to create 'puns' and sarcasm) and centuries of cultural baggage (phrases that cannot be translated literally, but have some cultural source, eg 'raining cats and dogs'). I thoroughly enjoy any persons attempts to join in the discussions posted here, particularly those from countries where English is not even the second language. I read many responses from people in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, etc where the English is written incorrectly, but in a charming way, because you can see where the mistake comes from, a slightly wrong verb use, or a word in the wrong place. I have seen some myLot users, who should know better, put insulting or critical comments to these answers, and do not approve. It is belittling someone else's genuine effort, and I feel flattered that these contributors have put in a great deal of effort to open a discourse with others in the world. Please, please, will people continue to practice their English in this site, I learn from their input. As with anything else in life, you learn through practice. I use a variety of study aids to help my students, and DVDs are tremendous because you can re-watch them, and use different subtitles to help you understand conversational English (though subtitles are not always a direct translation). Buy a few old films, where the English was more formal, and less slang. Alfred Hitchcock films seem to get a good response from my students. All the best to everyone who is learning English, and I look forward to reading your comments, thoughts and ideas.

Thanks for your enlightening view, and for helping us all understand the purpose of learning a good english. While some other people thought it was an offense, I forgive all of them. Thanks again, and hope that you help more children in enhancing their knowledge and skills in english language!;)

For every student I teach, I get the reward of learning from them, too. English can be a beautiful language. I forgot to reccommend 'English newspapers', which can often be purchased in the cities, or read free via the internet. I would try 'The Times', as the quality of English is quite good, and uses some of the less common words in the language. Good luck, and thank you.

I think as these is an international community where peoples from all the areas are participating in this discussions forum..I can expect such things..grammatical errors...wrong use of some words..incorrect formation of sentences...etc.we have to cope of with this..and we should suggest the right process of forming sentences and right words..while responding to their discussions or through private messages..

Right. We should do it to a process where they would not take it as an insult but with humbleness. Accept and learn to correct mistakes. Thank you for contributing!;)

Maybe have a different forum for different languages so people can talk in their own tongue? It is probably difficult for them to 'talk' in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th language especially since it is so difficult to spell a lot of English words. I don't usually respond to someone who has horrible English, not because I am trying to offend someone, it is just very hard to understand what it is they are trying to say.

MyLot is a place for everyone to learn. Try this one: I'm a greek and I think I speak english good enough. But there are sometimes that I try to find words and grammar to use. I will get help if I can from one of my friends in my list that are american or english. There are others that they read some posts and they don't understand something. They immediately run to find out what the meaning of a word is. They learn. We learn. We all learn.

i really appreciate. with no offense to bad englishers (i am no exception), i think it brings in irritation to see grammatical (?) mistakes and some more when i see spellings wrongly spelt. i am not a dictionary in english, but i atleast try and give in best sane sentences. i think, if we give a little time to revise our posts and look twice to our grammar, spelings and syntax and not to forget punctuations, a lot can be improved within a short time period. thank you for allowing me to vent out my annoyance. keep sharing dude....

My opinion is very simple that my purpose on mylot is to practice and develop my english, then for a bit funny, not just for earning much money.I know that my english is not so good, especially at grammar, but i want to reply more and more discussions using many words to practice it and enhance my language feeling,as i am a international trader,my career requires me good english.i believe that via practicing,my level must be improved soon.lol...

I don't have a problem with weak english. Those people should be applauded for knowing more than one language. However, I have issues with people who do not use periods, commas etc. It is easier to decipher bad english if people use punctuation. otherwise if you just write like this i dont care how well the english is it is going to be hard for someone else to read and that is very annoying dont you think? When people write as I did above, it makes it seem like they are so lazy and trying to type so fast that they can't even pause for a period. That bothers me and I don't responde to people that do that.

as i go through the discussions, there are times when i can hardly understand some discussions due to grammatical errors. and i just skip those discussions since i know my thoughts can't connect anyway. i am not perfect myself. i commit mistakes most of the time. but i always try to find a better way to make my point clearer.

gramamtical mistakes are common for every body while working with mylot. But it is also a place where one can develop good english talent and communication skills. If any one finds it difficult to respond or start a discussion it is better for him/her to refer a good grammar book

Your English is some of the best I've read, on here. I am a writer by profession, so I have made a career out of the English language. It makes my teeth hurt when I read errors that are so obvious, it's scary. I can see that some errors are made by people who are still learning, but I see plenty that are made by people who just appear too lazy to learn the language. Again, you have done a fine job expressing yourself clearly.

Yes, I agree with you. And I don't care if they ignore it or whatever they have in their minds. Gaining knowledge and gathering facts is my ultimate goal here on mylot. It's really nice to know that someone understands the purpose of this discussion. So I therefore conclude, to my own gathering of facts, that even the so-called 'intellectuals' can be sometimes Lazy!;)

ya I also feel that people who are not able to express themselves clearly as of now should be encouraged to speak their minds out and to learn from what they see and in this encouraging atmosphere they will definately learn. Though i dont disagree with people who get irritated also as sometimes its not only about not being able to express but some people who dont know about it also say just anything for the sake of saying which is irritating but these are two different issues and definately those who are genuinly trying to express themselves should be encouraged

Although it is not of primary concern of myLot that we should be grammatically correct, it does not mean we shouldn't check our english. If we can try to be good at it, why not right? Its for our own good and practice anyway. I think it would be better to just double check your post first, read it again before hitting post response so we know if we made grammar errors and prevent from posting the errors.

I know what your name means, "KABAYAN"!;) A good example in why we should learn english, is the growing demand of job opportunities in call centers. This booming industry is not only in-demand here, but also from countries that has the ability to speak english fluently.
