What strategies do you use for starting a dicsussion?

I have tried to come up wit discussions that will stimulate the mind into responding but what I find is that the subject that does the best for me isn't the one that I would expect to keep going.
Yet the one's that I think will get a good response can go without any responses.
What do you do?

I usually post things that are on my mind at the moment. I avoid yes and no discussions and try to get people to say what they think. sometimes i get 1 response ans sometimes a hundred. NO MATTER WHAT - I always go back and rate and comment ALL replies that I get and I do belive that people appreciate this and it makes them come ba ck and respond to one more. I also always after a few days hand out a best response to the person who deserve it..

I try to word a discussion to avoid those yes or no answers. They are most annoying.

If an idea or questions or present situations needs to be discuss, I immediately make it as a discussion. No strategies, just being true to myself. And to my co-members here. The more true to yourself the more friends and co-members will respond on it.
