I have always been wanting to learn some artistic skills such as digital arts, 3D modelling and drawings although i am not an artist wannabe, hehe(i am an IT student). I have always been wondering on how some people there on deviantart.com could draw and create superb arts and graphics. What do you think does it takes to become as great as them? Pure practice and hardwork? or is it just talents?

the first thing you should do is to get the tools you need and learn how to use it (better mastering it) 2nd you need to get some tutorials and learn them 3rd try to active your imagination and after that you are ready to work and after practicing i am sure you will get the talent (for me talent can get from working and practicing) and about the site you posted here i guess they draw anime on paper then by using scanner they put it into pc and after that they used photoshop to color it and make it loooks good and you maybe get interested about whats can victor arts do (Ex: Flash , FreeHand and others) and for other pictures i am sure they used program like photshop i hope thats helped you :)

Even child prodigies have to practice their art and learn how to use the tools. Artists practice and practice. For every one painting that gets sold there are countless unsold, unwanted, left in a pile somewhere paintings. If you feel the desire to do something, it is for a reason. I love playing with graphic arts, and use it to make a little extra money by designing business cards for people. I don't even have to print them, I just send the image I create to the person, and they can print it themselves on their own printer. I don't think it has anything to do with talent or ability, but everything to do with DESIRE.

It's a combination of all three. talent is nice, but if you don't use it; it is worthless. hard work, Practice and discipline you can certainly become an artist although be aware you may never quite be as good as someone who has the talent as well.
