Do you tend to overspend or underspend when you go away on vacation?

For me it depends on where I am going. If it is a place new that I am going to, I will spend more since there are things there that I may have not seen before or made differently, especially out of the country. If I have been there before, I don't spend too much other than on food and entertainment. Do you go all out while on vacation or are you careful about how much you spend? Does it depend on where you go as well?

In comparison to how I am normally (very frugal), you could say that I hae more of a tendency to overspend when I'm on vacation. This is especially true if I know I won't be going anywhere for awhile, I won't worry about spending as much. I agree with you also, it depends on where I am going - if I rarely get there or think I may never return, I'll have a tendency to spend more.

We set a budget allowance for all the things that we will require for the trip. Then we figure out how much we have for "play" time. With this "play" money we buy things that we just want or services. We always stick to the budget. We usually don't have much "play" money though.

I usually overspend when I go someplace new since I have never been there before and would be tempted to buy all sorts of souvenirs and things there. I spend little when I go somewhere that I have already been to since chances are things have not changed much or at all since my last visit there.

We have to save up a long time to go on a vacation. So, when we go, we kinda watch what we spend. We will spend as little as possible on food, but lots more on purchasing things or entertainment. We try to always go to different places.

When I have gone on vacation, I have been pretty good at alloting myself enough to be able to buy things that I know I will want to do. So, I am pretty good about not spending too much. I often find that I have set aside too much thinking I would spend more. LOL But I also have never been to another country. I think if I were to go to another country, I probably would spend more than I planned. LOL

I would definitely spend more if I went to another country since I know that I probably will not go there again or as often as being in the states.

it depends... when i went to hong kong last july, i spent more than what i expected to spend, maybe because it was sale season and most items were marked cheaper... when i went to bangkok which was considered a shopping haven to due to very cheap bargains, i think i spent less...

For me as well it depends on where I go and what kind of prices they have on merchandise and food and other things. Going someplace new is when I usually tend to spend a little more since I had never been there before and am curious to learn more about the place.

I generally overspend because what to purchase cannot be determined before taking a trip. Once I am in a place, depending on what is available at what price is decided. Obviously it is deficit financing.

This is true that you can not determine how much you are going to spend or what you will spend it on since you do not know what to expect. If we are on a tight budget, than we have to resist some of the temptations of what we buy while on vacation.

Well, I agree with you. It all depends on where you are going, and if I have allowed to set a Budget on what I need to spend when I am there. I know we have plans on going to New Jersey, NYC, and Washington DC this summer, so that will be an expensive one for us, and easy to over do it. I guess you just need to learn to set yourself a Goal and budget, and stick to it. And try to leave your Credit Cards at home if you can.

I tend to never speed, on vacation or not. So, it would not matter where I was going. My husband is careful to do the speed limit also.

When we go on a vacation I make sure that we don't spend too much so that we can have something for emergency if it happens.

Most of my money on vacations is spent on travelling and food. I like trying local delicacies and food preparations rather than eating the same junk everyday. I like seeing traditions of the place nad travelling places of interest. I don't usually buy things because I believe people try to cheat foreigners or tourists. So, I stick to food and travelling.

We planned our vacation for along time, when we got to the resort we upgraded to full-board , being that we had the kids and my inlaw , we were not able to get out of the resort easily , so it worked out great , we spent less than what we thought

its a case to case basis. when i go to a place far away from the city, the things there are not so expensive and there are not so many things to choose from for me to buy, so i don't spend that much. But if i go to a different place, where there are a lot of good things you can find, i do spend a lot. it also depends on whether i have plenty of money or not- the budget for the trip is decisive.

It depends. Usually I am very frugal. But when I visit my kids and grandchildren across country once a year I spend, spend, spend, especially eating in cool restaurants I foot the bill for my kids

Yeah it depends much on where I am gpoing but generally, I tend to overspend whenever I am on a vacation. Since going to a vacation means going to a new place that is far different than any other places I regularly visit, I tend to but stuffs that are unique and which reminds me of that place Ive been to. I also tend to splurge much on food and accessories that I am going to wear. Splurging once in a while don't hurt, right?!
