Who do you make friends on myLot?

I have been on myLot for about a week now and am still not sure how the whole friends thing works. I have started discussions and responded to others and have seen the option to add someone to friends but is that how it works? You just add someone who's topic you enjoyed or responded to?

hey dont feel bad i have been on here 3 months and only have one friend. i would make you a friend but i dont know how.

I make friends in myLot either from people having different cultural background or people who share the same interest like me.
