Have you ever noticed that after a natural disaster or any kind of tragety, people "know" what could have been done. I mean people just come out of the woodwork with advice on how things should have been done differently. They point fingers and those fingers are never pointed at themselves.
Many poeple think that they dont need to prepare for life's everyday problems. Lets face it, we have all heard someone say "If something goes wrong, I will just call 911 and they will come quickly". The fact is that this is not always the case. Imagaine the entire town is without power or phones. How will you call? How many people are needing help besides you?
We need to quit the finger pointing and begin to prepare as much as possible to take care of ourselves and our families. This is the first in a series of articles on preparedness that I will be writing. I will be publishing articles on how to prepare, what you can do to save someones life, how to make a 72 hour kit and other life saving skill articles.
Are you and your family prepared for an emergency if it were to strike today? Do you have some water, food and medical supplies put away for emergencies?
Lets talk about these skills and together we can be prepared because let's face it "The Government will not be there to help".

That is the biggest thing people hasve to realize, the government will not be there to help. Look at Katrina, the suffering there. We all need to take responsibility for ourselves, and chioiose to be prepared or unprepared but whatever we choose we are responsible.

I think too many families are counting on the government to be there to help them and they are going to be sorry if they dont prepare themselves.

You are so true about all the things that should have been or could have been done. If that is the case then why weren't they done or at least suggested beforehand? My family is prepared and has been for years. We ecperience tornadoes often and always have to have a line of defense and preparedness.

Don't you feel better knowing you can take care of yourself and your family in case of emergency?

People are really too dependant on our government to help out in the case of an emergency. We really need to think ahead and prepare ourselves for such a happening. Why not start today.

I hope everyone takes your advice and starts to prepare today. If they are already started, I hope they do more today. Thanks for your comment

I'm not a finger pointer ... but I'm totally unprepared for any kind of disaster. In Iowa we are most likely to be hit with a blizzard or a tornado and of course fire can hit anywhere. We don't really have any escape plans or emergency kits. I know this is a definate problem that needs to be addressed in our family.

Knowing is the first step to preparedness. Now you just have to get started. We found out on a trip down south a few years ago just how unprepared others were. We were prepared and thankful for it. There were cars parked beside the interstate everywhere. It was a real eye opener. Here in West Virginia, we have to be prepared because power outages happens frequently.
