Do you still use a film camera?

I, of course, do use a digital camera but I have to admit that I still love my 35mm camera. It's a Cannon Rebel. I guess I get this from my Dad who also has a love of film. I read where someone said that film is dead. I surly hope not. Is there anyone else that still uses film?

I have to admit that I don't, sorry *laugh* I used to spend probably a hundred dollars on film and developing before the advent of digital cameras, and I don't miss film cameras really one bit *laugh* I don't miss the hassle of taking the film in to be developed, and me being a rather impatient sort I also don't miss the wait! *laugh* But I do love photography! ^_^ Digital cameras.. man, i wanted one so badly from the minute they came out on the market. It was one of the best days ever when I finally got a worthwhile one and didn't have to worry about buying film anymore! But to each their own, and I truly don't begrudge you still using a 35mm camera! And I'm sure that the film companies are extremely happy that you're still out there, in any case! ^_~

I have several cameras and use or used them for different things. First, the Canon EOS REBEL. I would use it as a backup when out on a shoot and used it religiously for things like birthday parties and Christmas parties because it was only a $500.00 camera and I would not be terribly upset if it got knocked over by a child or something spilled on it, etc. Second, Nikon f-100. I used this camera for shooting features and magazine covers. Almost never used it except for work as it always felt heavy to me. Third, Sony DSC P-50 I used for small things like small features that didn't HAVE to be top quality. Back when I was using this camera, 2 MP cameras were great!!lol Fourth, Nikon D-200. When I bought this camera, I virtually stopped using any other camera in the house. My husband still uses the Sony for little silly stuff but we really could sell it and the others. Fifth, Canon Powershot that I bought for my son for Christmas. Believe it or not, he has actually been published because he always wanted to take his own pictures when he was with me while I worked and his angles were great!!. He's going to be good one day when he's done with being my football star!!

lol We started my granddaughter out on a cheap Walgreens Loyality camera when she was about 8 and she took one of the top spots at the Houston zoo picture contest. Now of course she has moved up in cameras but she took some awesome shots when she was 8. It's amazing to see things through the eyes of a child. I want to take a couple of courses to get much better with my shooting. I would loveeee to take my photograpy to a level where I could sell it. I love it so much. I envy you guys. :-)

I have two cameras that I use, my 35mm camera and my cell phone camera. I use my cell phone camera more than anything but plan on getting a digital camera in the near future. That is great that you still love your 35mm camera as there are probably not too many people that use those anymore.

I do not use film anymore. Since we got our digital camera, we haven't used film. It works better for us since we can email the pictures to family and friends all over the country. We never seemed to remember to develop the film and actually have lost film, then found it again a few years later.

I am just like you. I still use my 35mm w/film, also. I even still have 110 camera... and a Polaroid. I am also interested in developing my pictures. At one point i was going to turn my back room into a dark room but i just can't find enough information about it out there anymore. I never learned how. Now it is on my long list of things to do. Thanks for starting a good discussion.

There are tons of books out there about setting up your own darkroom. Check your library. I'm sure Ansel has that info somewhere in one of his books.

There is this mystery involved when taking my pictures using film, i also share the same passion as to using my old FM10 camera, i own a digital camera but there is something in my film camera that keeps me using it. Maybe it's the image quality that i yearn as to having a painting-like quality in it. I use my film camera when taking artistic shots.

I have to admit that I do not even know where I put our film camera. We have one, i just do not know where it is. It is so much easier and cheaper just to use a digital camera. We can take a picture with the digital camera, download the picture to the computer right away and avoid time and expense of having to get picture film developed.

I still use my film camera because it's a requirement for my courses. I also love printing in the darkroom so I won't be completely giving up on my film camera just yet. But, I love my digi and being able to manipulate shots on a whim without having to scan and clean each photo first. It's also more convenient when I'm trying to learn a new concept. Being able to see the photo the moment after it's taken helps me learn more than taking a whole roll and then having to develop it (Unless I write my process for each frame, I will probably forget what I did).

I used a film camera up until last summer. I made the switch to digital and kick myself for not doing so earlier. The immediate feedback is worth it all. The histogram make exposure guessing a thing of the past and it eliminates surprises of all sorts at printing. As for films demise, yes, Kodak and Fuji have announced they will cease manufacturing film in the next few years.

I love film. Digital is too prohibitively expensive up-front. and Film lasts longer.

Rebel is a hell of a camera. I still dust off my old Pentax every now and then, but film processing these days is just too expensive. Even if you go to one of those places (Hell-Mart, for example) where they ship it off and run it through a machine without giving it any kind of personal attention, it's too expensive. Most of my work is done with an Easyshare z740 these days.
