Right now I keep my rabbit in a medium sized dog cage, but I feel like she does not have enough room. What kind of house do you have for your rabbit and how is it working out for you?

My rabbit has a huge house. We used an old dog house that we built up against our garage and my husband made it so it was 2 rooms. We stuff the one with hay he can burrow in and the other is open then we cut a hole in one end and made a screened in area for him. Kind of like his sun porch.

I am a worm farmer who is also interested in rabbits, because both animals co-exist well. The rabbit manure and food pellets it kicks out of it's cage could fall into a long worm bin under it. The worms will eat the droppings and keep the area smelling cleaner, than if you had to clean out the cage all the time. It sounds like the right size cage for just one bunnie. I have seen them in smaller cages, but they where just being raised for fut and meat, not pets. I do not have rabbits yet but I do have a few wild ones eating in my garden from time to time. If you have the room I would let the rabbit out for a run every once in a while. We baby-sat (rabbit-sat?, cat-sat?) a friend's bunnie and two cats and that is what we did. His cage is not that big, but he seemed ok. I hope that helps.

I wanted to show you a photo, but I guess that isn't working right now. I use a puppy pen. You can buy a standard one about 3 or 4 feet high, they're around 16 square feet when opened. Put linoleum flooring under it to protect your carpets or other flooring underneath. This is very easy to clean. Just add litter box, hay, bowl of pellets, water dish, toys, etc. and you're ready to go! You can link two puppy pens together for something even larger.

I have a very large cage, about 3 feet tall and 4-5 feet wide, and inside of it I installed a second level wooden box the rabbits can hop up into and hide in. They're really only confined to their cage while I'm out of the apartment or asleep, and the rest of the time they have a free run of the apartment but they don't like hardwood floors so they stay on a rugged area in our dining room.
