Former resident, 84, says the Big Apple was very good to me' Think you love New York? Marguerite Drucker really loves New York. The 84-year-old housewife, who moved away several years ago, sent the Big Apple a $7,000 cashier's check and an anonymous note professing her enduring fondness for the City. "Dear Sir," her hand written letter said. "Please find enclose for the poor of the City of New York. The City has been very good to me." The letter, sent to the comptroller's office, didn't have a return address, but Drucker's name was on the check. Drucker, a former nurse, was married to a pediatrician in the borough of Queens, where they raised seven children, participated in Church activities and contributed to charities, friends said. She now lives in another state and didn't want to discuss her gift. But the city comptroller, William Thompson Jr., was eager to praise her. "She stands as a wonderful symbol of New York and all that's good about this City and what it's done for many people over the years," Thompson said. "It's very, very rare to receive a basically anonymous donation of this size. Drucker's check receive Nov. 29 will go into the City's General Fund, which pays for the variety of services, including helping the poor.
