I love the advantages of aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is the use of scents and fragrances to obtain a reaction. For instance, some scents will relax you while others will stimulate and wake you up. There is a wonderful website based out of London that has a listing of scents and what they do. If you're interested check out http://londonscents.com/oils.html for more information on scents. Unfortunately I'm in the US and cannot order from them but I do utilize their listing of scents and reactions. What scents do you use often and to obtain what reaction?

Actually it isn't a "new age" thing. It has been around for centuries. It was used very often by ancient civilizations, and has evolved over the years, becoming known to us today as Aromatherapy. I also don't feel that it is "exotic". Aromotherapy can be done by simply using things your already have in your home/spice cabinet or that you are able to grow in your own herb garden. For instance the scent of grapefruit can be revitalizing. I hope you will open your mind, because some of the things you are missing are really great.

There's no harm to it. It's a matter of using your sense of smell to help yourself feel better. I've never heard of someone overdosing on the scent of lavender! lol And dream is quite right, it's the farthest thing from "new age" you can find. It's been around for centuries and very well practiced around the world. Most ancient cultures realized the powers of these herbs and spices long before there was a "true" medicine.

Hey hockeygal, I love the new avitar. I have tried aromatherapy quite often. I used to incorporate oils into my massages when I did manicures, pedicures, and reflexology. For me personally I love peppermint/mint scents, that stimulate and invigorate me. I also use lavender as a calming oil when I get overly stressed out. But there are so many more scents and uses. Thank you for the very informative website, I checked it out and saved it on my favorites. I too am in the US and can't order. :-( Great topic, by the way.

Thanks. I am truly addicted to scents and creating wonderful smells around me with aromatherapy. My one masseur (spelling? LOL) used to use some awesome scents in his massage oils too. I also use an Aveeda product for my hair and to be honest I use it as a soap too because my hairdresser said it's basically the same thing offered at a higher price when you buy it as shower gel, that has mint in it. It invigorates the scalp, the scent wakes you up and makes you feel like a new person. Glad you could enjoy the site! I found it useful in many ways and loved that some of the items listed are actually things you can pull out of your spice rack and boil up!

aromatherapy is very inexpensive when done yourself. ... it's as simple as burning special scents of candle to achieve different feelings (as I said Lavender relaxes, mints invigorate, etc.) If you can find "ESSENTIAL OILS" to put in a massage oil base and just rub yourself down, to relax your muscles or better yet have your partner do this, the scents can be wonderful.

I never tried it, but I got interested now when you told this to me. Once in my life I've never tried this remedy since i have an allergy in my nose. Once I've smell scents or even fishy, and bad one. I'm sneezing. Does it has a bad effect?

There are actually scents for that. Check it out on the net and then look locally for someone who knows their aromatherapy. It may help.

No, small bottles of essential oils are very inexpensive and you literallly need only a drop or two to do the job Candles can be found for fairly inexpensive too.

The bee's wax candles I make are used by massage therapists and aromatherapists since the smell is natural and light. Some folks can't stand the artificially made candles, so this is a good alternative.

Very true. There are also the newest trend of soy candles out also. Candles, when made right, can give off such wonderful scents.

I use aromatherapy quite a lot, I especially like lavender, it's a wonderful thing. It's good for easing tension, easing headaches, relaxing aching muscles, unblocking a blocked nose, it's a good air freshener, it helps get rid of nits, it does loads more too! I use a few different aromatherapy products but I mostly use them in my bath, I use lavender or chamomile to relax and mint to wake me up. I'm interested in the link you've put there, I've not noticed it before, I'm in the UK so I should be able to buy direct from them, thank you for posting it.

You're so right. Lavender does relax so well. Also, various mints can invigorate and help with sinuses too. Enjoy the site and I hope you find something good!

I love studying aromatherapy -- that is the root of our western medicines after all. I used to make my own lotions, soaps, and perfumes with pure essential oils. I have also used them for healing.. mostly lavender, chamomile, peppermint. I believe holistic healing is truly wonderful and the way we are meant to heal. Also look into Reiki - which is a spiritual "theraputic" touch. Incredibly effective. My ex husband used to call me Bewitched!!

I absolutely swear by aromatherapy and essential oils. The main ones I use for aromatherapy are lavender and eucalyptus for the calming effects they provide. The eucalyptus did wonders for calming me when I was stressing through college classes! I also believe very strongly in essential oils for their homeopathic benefits.

I love aromatherapy, I am always trying new scents, sometimes the least likely combinations are perfect, like rose and vanillia. Do you have any other ideas?

As long as I'm breathing ok, I couldn't be any happier. I guess this philosophy in itself acts as self-therapy.
