If China will throw out communism, China will become the world's foremost economic power. A minority can not control an economic unit more for its own benefit than for that of its members overall without severly curtailing the progress and developement of that economic unit. This is exactly what communism has done to China, impeded its growth for the sake of the communist party. Think not? Look at what Taiwan and Hong Kong did without communism's help. Think what China could do with so many more people! China, wake up! Get rid of communism, establish democracy, free enterprise & competition, and capitalism. You would rule the world. As to the current China ruled by communism surpassing the US in only 10 years, not a chance. When there are other political parties allowed in China along with free elections, then I'll start to worry.

Yes, China is in a process of transition and has a combination of characteristics of both communism and capitalism. Unfortunately for the Chinese, the communist way still predominates.

Maybe India will surpass China. Who knows. Superpowers flourish and fail over time. China was a superpower three centuries ago.

I think a land with over 2 billion people should be a real dynamo and power in the world. I think the only thing stopping china is the repression within. They have just started to flex economic muscle and should continue to grow and become a power in the world of commerce and possibly in the world of military power. They have been learning to allow the people power to improve their quality of life and thus improve the nation as a whole. If it is allowed to continue and not stymied it will become one of the worlds greatest economic powers.
