Long Pinky Fingernails

This is probably a stupid discussion. But yesterday I was observing several men sitting at a table in a restaurant. Since my favorite pasttime when observing people is to look at their hands first I noticed something that previously I had only seen in the Orient. The pinky fingernails are considerably longer than the others. It always piqued my curiosity and today I decided to see what people here think. My hypothesis is that they use it to pick their noses. Why else would they have long pinky fingernails? Can anyone tell me of another good reason? I have depleted my imagination. I know it sounds ridiculous on paper but can it be that there is another purpose.

Double b66 is right: If they keep all of their other nails trimmed to a decent length and you see extra long pinky nails the most probable reason is to snort coke. Most people won't want their hands to look bad and will keep all of their nails a normal, even length. There really is no other reason to let your looks go. Maybe there is someone out there who is willing to explain why they would let their pinky nail grow longer than the rest of their nails...!

The only other people I know who have fingernails longer on one hand than the other are classical guitar players. They prefer them to plastic, ivory or metal picks. I, too, was hoping that someone here might be "guilty" of long pinky nails if only to satisfy my curiosity. Thanks for dropping in and your input.

Maybe it is a signal to others of something that they want to let others know something about themselves. You know, kind of like a woman flirting with someone.

Now that's something I never thought about...could be. Thanks.
