I am not sure but thought that perhaps it was because they have feathers. Maybe some other member can enlighted us on this matter. :)

Yes a ostrich is a bird. Penguins are also birds who cannot fly. And emus which are like ostrichs. Can flamingos fly?

Pink flamingoes-- the company that created them in the '50s just stopped making them. So they will now become collectors' items, I guess.

Why is a kiwi a bird which does not fly. Also an ostrich, and an emu. They are birds because they have characteristics of birds, and so they make the list like that.

for the same reason penguins are called birds, they have wings.

Actually turkeys can fly--not high up into trees or anything, and they can't migrate, but they can fly short distances. I saw a story on the news the other day where they "released" wild turkeys from cages and they flew away. Of course, if they were better at flying, maybe they wouldn't get caught and eaten so much. ;-)

I don't know. Maybe the wing is too short.

They have feathers, they are heavy thats why they can fly. But if they were lighter they'd probably could use their feathers to fly. Not to mention they are big birds!

i dont know. maybe its on the structure of their wings that prevents them from flying.

LOL....Penguins cant fly either..Nor ostritches, emus, and god only knows how many other birds. However they do have wings so I guess thats what classifies them, but No it doesnt make any sense..They should call them some thing else.
