I just saw on the news that some companies are now offering elder care to workers with elderly parents. They offer care from 8:00am to 6:00pm. There are activities and lunch snacks and coffee etc are served. Would you utilize this service? I heard the cost was upwards of $1oo

I think it is good. My mom was pretty much homebound caring for my elderly grandmother, especially towards the end. My parents couldn't do anything together because someone always had to be home with my gramma. It was really hard. I don't know what they would have done if my mom had to work, too. They probably would have had to pay someone to babysit her (my mom actually used to do that for a friend's mother).

even though it was hard on your mom, your gramma was very lucky

It's very nice to hear this news. It's really also a problem to leave the elderlies at home with no one to take care of them. I hope there will be similar to this in various places in the world so that the elderlies also would not be just confined at home.

Our elderly need more care and respect. Even if only a few people from mylot would volunteer one or two hours a week it would make a big difference. MyLotians could even just help at lunch or dinner to help during meals.

I think that is a great thing. It lets the person work and lets the parents get out and socialize with others. Although the cost is a little steep I don't think it should cost that much maybe $50.00 a week tops. I think that a company that does this shows it cares about its workers and it also takes alot of strain off the worker knowing there parent is being took care of and they can visit them on break time to see how they are doing.

I wonder if this became more popular if the government might offer a subsidy so that more people could take advantage of this if they needed it

I know there are some in my area although I don't know the cost of them. Some are specialized also for alzhiemers (spelling) patients. I think it's a fabulous thing to offer and the ones around here seem to do a good bussiness. This area though has a lot of senior citizens though so not sure how it would work in other areas.

I think that's teriffic. I had neighbours who had to leave their poor mother at home alone all day when they went to work because there was just no place to send her. The poor dear couldn't speak english, and occasionally got confused. The up side is that she used to keep my grandson amused by speaking to him in Mandarin across the balcony. and the one time she did need help, she trusted my daughter enough to allow her into the house. They finally found just such a place for her in the Chinese community centre in our city and they all were much happier afterwards.

It's nice to know that you at least kept an eye on her enough that she was able to call on you when she needed help More folks should be doing this
