If Your House Has Been Burgled Would You Move?

Some people say that having their homes burgled is like personal rape, having someone go through your private possessions, knowing that someone has been in your house, a stranger looking around, going through your belongings. Has this happened to you, would you move because of it? Or if this was to happen, would you feel that your home isn't your home anymore?

Recently my ancestral house was broken in to but since we have shifted moist of outr things from there so the thief took all our Taps. I think he was a plumber probably but he looked through everything and few clothes he did found but took nothing even when they were brand new. Poor thing must have worked for three hours or more to get inside. We repaired the doors and window that he broke and replaced all the locks and increased the hieght of the boundary wall of the backyard. We are not condidering moving or selling tht house as property rates are really high to buy a new house and we have so many memories of that place, plus its rare to have a park in front of your house in cities these days. Thief can come and go but we are not that scared. He will get caught eventually at some point.

We've been burgled and didn't even consider moving, the thought never even crossed my mind. I think the thing I worried about most was my dog as they'd shut her in a cupboard, she was in a total state afterwards, some guard dog hey!? I felt angry towards the people who did it, even though they dodn't take much but they'd found shoe polish and smeared it all over the walls, so I seriously pissed off at having to redecorate too, but never felt the need to move. I think that's probably got a lot to do with my bloody mindedness too and no way is someone going to drive me out of my own home. Might have felt differently if I though we were personally targeted though. For once the British Justice System came through, they were caught and we got all our stuff back.

No pal I couldn't move and yes I would feel really violated ,
I often think about how that must feel for strangers going through your personal stuff , ..
i think if they had been in certain drawers I would through that stuff out ,
It must be a really awful thing to have to get over ,
The funny thing is I have just this week bought another light for out the back door , one of the ones that come on automatically when they sense a movement ,
I think you should feel safer especially as we get older xx

If I had been asked 5 hours ago.... I would have said I had never been burgled. unfortunately... when I came home from work today.... I had been burgled. As they say.. more than the loss of the material items.. it is a feeling of violation. I have lived here for 10 yrs with no probs. I don't plan to make any changes.. but if any other incidents occured (to me or my neighbors) i would be moving. Luckily for the me the burglers must have been in a hurry because they left many valuable items and only took the TV and DVD player. (and a small stack of movies next to both.) I'm glad we weren't home and it wasn't worse. I have never had such a violation. I dont' know what insurance will pay.. but i can say I am glad I didn't come home for lunch today to find intruders in my home... sheesh I feel icky... I hope I can sleep.....

Hey good one, If it happened to me I would definetly move out of my house. A couple of years ago I lived in a complex which I hated and a few doors down from me was broke into. After that I moved and now Im in a great house and dont hear people on each side of me anymore. When something like that happens it really makes you think. The people who broke in to my neighbors did it in the daylight. That takes some nerve.

we had a burglary in our own house when we went out with the whole family though they didnt get to enter the main house and took away small things only.but we never thought of moving.i mean yes a person may be knowing where all the stuff are but moving because only of a burglary dosnt make any sense to me.

It doesn't make sense to me either. It would make me the double victim and the burglar the victor.

It would have to occur more than once before I would consider moving out of my home no matter how bad it was. I am not one to let theives ruin my home for me.

I would feel violated, and I would want to move. But I would first change all the locks and put up alarms and more lights around the house.

I have been burgled twice at different houses. Both times entry was by a window. One window was removed completely out of the frame, and the other the window was smashed in. Neither time was I at home thank goodness.
It is a MAJOR trauma believe me and I am now very security conscious though I'd prefer not to go into details about that.

I was burgled when i lived in Aldershot,
By a couple of my daughters so called friends!
They came in the living room window which was at the back of the house.
Not sure how long they were there but as we went in the frount door they went out the back. So we had a good idea of who it was to tell the police.
They didnt take much There really wasnt much worth taking,
a little cash which i had put away toward the bills, a few CDs, videos and they raided my fridge!
Thats how they caught them - They had wiped the windows but forgot to wipe the fridge so they left fingerprints on the fridge door.
At the time I didnt really feel anything and there was no way i could afford to move house so we stayed there.
Both lads were sent to a detention home.
Did you know Britain is the most burgled nation in Europe?
Yes, Britain has the best burglars in Europe, something to be proud of? I think not!
Researchers found that in 2004 3.3% of residents in Britain had been burgled compared with an EU average of 1.7%

I think I will probably have to install more secure locks. If I have the money to buy a new place I would move because I don't like the thought that those burglars have been through my house and know who I am. I hope and pray I will never have to experience it.

I would seriously consider moving if there was no other way to make the house more secure. I'm renting though so I'd have to wait until the end of the lease.

Hi. wolfie34. No, it never has been. But many years ago, almost 17 years ago, my aunt's apartment was burglarized. She said that many things were stolen from her apartment. She was very upset about this too. I know that this made her very mad. So she ended up moving from out of this apartment. She now has a house in a nice neighborhood. I don't know how long that she stayed in her apartment until she moved out of it. But she moved. I think that it had to do with the burglary though of why she moved out. If someone broke into my home, I would feel violated and scared. I would also feel as if my privacy was invaded. I would feel as if this place was not my home anymore.

I think if my house was burgled the burgler would feel sorry for me and come back and leave me stuff.lol. Seriously though I would get over the stuff that was taken, but the thoughts of a stranger in my home would probably be too much for me. Id be listening to every creak and rattle and rattling in fear myself. If I couldnt move I think Id end up with my house alarmed and booby trapped to the roof.
Then people would probably think I had something worth burgling me for and try harder to get in, so Id be back to square 1 again.
Yeah think Id move.

I can say that thankfully this has never happend to me. I don't know if I could continue to live in the same place though. I would always feel like if they made in it once what is stop them from doing it again. I would also feel that they knew way to much about me by going through my things, and that would make me even more vulnerable to them. If I did stay I would surely invest in some kind of extra security for myself and family.
