A retired Chief of Police in Charleston, S.C. is currently puzzling over a postcard dated nearly sixty years ago that recently showed up in his mailbox. He received this postcard in a plain white envelope with a one-cent stamp on the back.
It's a mystery how this postcard showed up at his house, which is several miles from it's intended destination. The card was apparently sent by his second cousin, but it was intended for someone else in his family and not for himself.
The envelope the card came in was postmarked in New York and sent from someone with an email address including the words 'lost.postcards' in it, but attempts to contact this email address have failed.
This is such an intruiging story, don't you think? You can read more here:

What would you do/what would you think if something like this happened to you? ^_^

I can understand the card not being delivered for so long because the amount of post that goes astray amounts to literally tons per year. The only surprising part is that it finally got delivered. After being lost in the post you would expect it to remain so, particularly since it would be harder to trace a recipient now than it should have been 60 years ago.
This would never have happened in the United Kingdom, because we have a very proficient postal service that always manages to deliver within 50 years.

I agree, Asylum, with every word that you said here. It is more of a miracle that the postcard got delivered than that it got lost. I am certain that, like you said, there is lots of mail that gets lost all around the world on any given day. But to recieve the postcard sixty years later is a near miracle! *laugh* What I find the most mysterious about the story is that it was sent with that email address attached to the envelope, yet no one will reply from that email address. I wish that someone had replied and let them know how they found the postcard and what motivated them to send it on to someone who they knew was in the same family as the person who was meant to receive the postcard in the first place! We need a followup news story to this one, like the one about the fat cat stuck in the doggie door where I heard later that the cat got back with it's original owners! ^_^

That reminds me of a Movie about a letter that was lost for 40 years or more. Had the letter not been lost the two young people in the movie would have married. Since it was not delivered, they both felt jilted and the result was a huge feud between the families.
I will not spoil the ending in case you see it. It was a bit of a chick flick, but I really enjoyed it.

Ally, that sounds like a really good movie. I have no idea of exactly what movie you are talking about, but I have nothing against so called chick flicks. After all, I am a chick, lol! *laugh* And I love romantic stories, sigh. I am definitely what you would call a hopless romantic. It makes me sad, even though it is just a story, thinking about a couple who would have gotten together had it not been for a letter that got lost. Aw. :/

You are right, getting an old letter in the mail would be a _great_ conversation starter, lol! That would be an anecdote that you could share for years to come! It would definitely fascinate just about anyone to hear about it, I am betting! ^_^ I would love to have a story like that to tell, myself, wouldn't you? ^_^

I gotta say I would love it if I received something that had been mailed years earlier. It is intriguing and it would probably start me on a search of sorts depending on who sent it. However, last year I missed receiving a bill from a department store. I got dinged for interest because I never got the bill so never paid it. I don't think I would be pleased if that showed up in my mailbox years after the fact! LOL!

That is a wild story, I don't know what I would think. I did read one article where just a few years ago this women received a letter written by her grand parents before they took their trip on the Titanic! I think she donated the letter to the US Mail Museum. I was blown away with that one.

I would love to see a copy of that letter. It was a great thing for her to donate it to the museum. I can only imagine what something like that would be worth.
