Why did you choose the breed of dog that you have? If you don't have a dog, what breed would you choose, and why?

We currently have an Australian Shepherd. We chose her because we do a lot of horseback riding and spend a lot of time at a friend's ranch. She helps us round up and chase the cattle and just enjoys being outdoors. We knew that an Australian Shepherd would be the perfect dog for our family and would fit into our lifestyle.

That's great!!! We have a beautiful Australian Shepherd and I ahve a picture of him in my MyLot profile. The sad thing is that he is not working well in our family. We love him but we live in a busy suburban neighborhood with lots of kids playing in adjacent fenced yards and he barks at them disturbing the peace and runs up and down the fence line trying to herd them. And even in our own home we have five children so it's a busy and loud environment and it makes him nervous to the point that he has snapped his teeth at our almost 3 yr old son. We're looking for a new home for him and hoping that he'll end up with someone like you would can appreciate this breed. We love dogs and we love this dog too but it just isn't the right fit for our family or for the dog. We're going to get a goldendoodle instead with the GREAT hope and desire that it will work better for the dog and for our family and neighborhood.

We were looking for a smaller dog, smart, good with kids, that doesn't shed much. The result was a miniature schnauzer...great little dogs and super smart too.

We decided to meet some dogs before even deciding on a breed. We knew that we didn't want one of the really small dogs (like a pug) but prefered a medium-large sized dog. We saw an add in the paper for a lady giving away puppies, we ended up falling in love with a pitbull/lab mix and still have him today :).
