learning a new language

I want to learn a new language but I am a tactile learner. I need to be interactive with learning. I cannot just read a book or listen to a tape to learn. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to learn a language when I need to go about it in a certain way? For example, I took 5 years of French in high school. But since I learned it the way I did, and because I never did get to apply it anywhere I forgot much of what I have learned. I can't afford to hire someone to teach me. One language I would like to learn is Spanish. There are tons of Spanish speaking people in my area but most of them do not speak English. So how do I connect with them?

Do you speak anything else besides English? What made you decide on Korean?
