Do you prefer using plastic kitchen jars to having glass jars?

Plastics are unbreakable, thus obviously they are much more covenient. However, some people think glass jars are still better option. What do you feel and why? Is there any scientific basis?

I prefer using glass jars to plastic ones for most storing most things. If a food is only going to be in short term storage, I do use plastic jars, or bags, but if it's going to be stored for a longer period of time I prefer to use glass. Generally, I store dry goods (flour, sugar and such) in plastic, and anything liquid, or prepared foods, in a glass container. A long time ago I read a study that said that since plastic is made from chemical products that after a time the chemicals leach out into the food. Think of canned goods for a minute...once you open up the can, if you leave the food in it, it develops that tinny taste that comes from the can itself. I have to think 'why wouldn't it be the same from plastic?'

Well honestly I like plastic, since I can't drop and break it. But my kids can melt it (on the burner that is not quite cool). The thing I don't like about plastic is that it holds more of the bacteria in and/or on it. Even after it is washed. For example: plastic container holding left over spagetti-you put in the microwave to heat up. That's great!!!! After you eat that and wash the container you will most likely see visually why it should have been glass. Tomatoes stain plastic and even tho it is cleaned it is still there. It goes for a lot of other things. You just can't get rid of all the germs and such.

I prefer glass over plastic because it looks cleaner plus I can sterilise it in the oven after it has been washed in warm soapy water. However when we are travelling I use plastic containers simply because they are less likely to break.

We use both. But I think glass jars look better. THey work with the flow of the kitchen better in my eyes, but i"m sure when I have kids, I'll be using plastic the most.

Thus, Most of you agree to the point that Glass Jars are better than the Plastic Jars, owing to their decent look, cleanability, clean appearance and non-reacting nature. The only point that goes against them is their breakability. Is there any unbreakable Glass Jar available? I think Fibre Jars are very much as close an answer to it. What do our other friends feel? From hygenic point of view, glass jars or containters are better to plastic jars. If we want to use to store dry powder or pulses PET or topper ware jars can be used.

Plastic jars catch fire and the smoke is toxicating. So, you need to be careful about them when keeping them in kitchen.

I like plastic better than glass, especially because I have kids and glass breaks very easily.

Glass. Foods taste better when kept in glass. Plastic leaves a taste in food I don't like. You can't heat food up to as high a temperature in plastic as you can glass. Glass cleans easier too.
