I do not believe in having a cat or large dog in the house unless they are house broke and they are not allowed on the furniture a cat on the stove, sink, fridge, table and counters are so unsanitary..I know of a person who will let their cat lick out of the same bowl they are eating out of NASTY and I do not believe in feeding at pet at the table what do you think

I have pets all my life. I was raised halk my life on a farm and animals were always around. Now just because I have had many pets does not mean I dont demand respect from them. My dogs DO NOT eat human food. They are not to be near the table when we are eating. They do get to lick faces and will give kisses on command. I use to have a minature yorkie and at my wedding reception my husbands friend fed him a whole hot dog. The hot dog was as big as the poor dog! It was then that we learned our lesson about feeding human food. My husband and I have very odd schedules and our dogs do have problems with being house broken. They are in a cage when we are not in the house so as not to have any problems. They do have accidents at night when they can't get me up to go. I cant blame them, they are both less then 10 pounds and have a little bladder. I on the other hand can not be woken after I have fallen asleep. I feel bad for pets who are left outside. They are mainly neglected, they get so cold, and they have a different attitude about them then a house dog does. Plus how do you sleep without a pet in your bed?!? They are so well behaved and I can't imagine a life without my pets. Since my husband and I are having problems with conceiving a family we spoil our dogs until the mean time and I find nothing wrong with it.

I have both cats and dogs in the house... The cats stay off the counters and the stove but they do get on top of the fridge, the sleep on the back of the couch, they dont scratch on the furniture because I have several post for them to use, they go outside to use the bathroom and they stay in the yard and my cats are very clean, well brushed... My 2 dogs are house dogs, both are chow-lab mixed and very house trained the rather "explode" than go potty in the house...Its how you train your pets, though some pets are "dumb as a rock" when it comes to training, I've been lucky to have "smart pets"...

Animails in the house and how they act is completely up to the owner. It all comes down to personal preference. My cat WAS an indoor cat for many years, but she knew not to get on the table or on the benchtop, she was only given food or snacks in her plate and nowhere else. Dogs on the otherhand belong outside,no matter how big. They were never bred for the indoors. But this is just my opinion, I know many a person who has an inside dog who lets themselves outside or asks to be let out when they need to.

Dogs are pack animals. They are also den animals. Think of inside as a den. They want to be with you and they want to be in your "den". Just leaving them outside they'll get lonely.

I have a cat and sometimes she gets up on the counters. It is natural for cats to like high places to perch and watch their surroundings. No way will I let her eat out of my cereal bowl. But cats are quite clean, as they are always grooming themselves.

Dogs lick their private parts, too, but people always let dogs lick their faces. What is the difference? They are both equally dirty and clean, if you ask me.

I think that is equally disgusting! I'm forever yelling at my daughter to stop letting the dog lick her children.

I have both a cat and a dog that are both indoor pets (the dog goes out to do his business in the yard, of course). Both are very well-behaved, but only because we were really consistant in training them. We got the cat to stay off the counters by squirting him with a water bottle every time he jumped up there, plus we never leave food out or dirty dishes in the sink, so there is no reward for him if he jumps up. I will admit that I let the pets lick out of my cereal bowl, but only after I am done with it!

I think you'd hate our house then lol we have 3 cats, 2 ferrets, and a dog. I always let my dog lick my bowl clean when I'm done eating from it, makes it easier to wash when doing the dishes lol

I too agree with you. I do not like animals of an y form within the house. I remembered when I once went to one of my aunts house just to be welcomed by the stench of dogs which must have been prowling within their sitting room . Just as I was about to sit on the sofa I see the cushions all strewn with cats fur. Imagine my plight.

Way to go with the animal thing. You got a lot of responses and ruffled some feathers. Wow. I am sending you 3 cats , 2 dogs, a squeaky parakeet and one minah bird, 2 turtles and 12 mice to keep you company...you poor dear. Oh ..and a pair of gerbils for what's her name.

I agree and yes some things should pets are not allowed to do. I have a yorkie, he doesn't beg at the table, he is not allowed in the kitchen. Now for the eating out of the same bowl is a bit too much pet-love. But some people don't have a problem wit that...That's not for me though...nice topic

We have 2 siberian huskies and they are house dogs. Both of them are housebroken. We got Tara as a pup and I had the pleasure of housebreaking her. We do not feed them any scraps. Kai does get on the couch but that is just the way huskies are. We have a blanet down for them.

I have a dog and at who are both fed from my plate and will get the plate after, I have a dishwasher so it's not a problem to me. My dog sleeps in my room and will often sneak into the bed around 4am, this is ok because I change the beds every couple of days anyhow. The cat wakes me up by snoring under my bed, when I was single I used to wake up with her curled round my head like a hat cos we didn't have heating then and she was cold lol. If I put a glass of Baileys or sweet martini and lemonade on the floor I lose it becuase they both love Baileys and Pollycat loves Martini. My dog has her own chair in the lounge which the cat will share with her although she has her bed under the heated clothes airer in the kitchen, nice and snug. I never intended it to be like this but that are a part of my family and both getting old now, I would never make them feel unhappy over something so unimportant, I can always clean up and I love them both very much.
