A 'free' slap in the face .. !!

I got a 'free' slap in the face this afternoon ... I'd decided to pop up to the local corner shop on my disability scooter .. there I was minding my own business choosing a loaf of bread .. I turned round and .. WHAMMO A young chap 'slapped' me in the face .... !! Poor man .. he was actually waving to a rather pretty girl who had just walked into the shop .. but just as he lifted his hand to wave I turned round and 'walked straight into' his 'wave' ... bless him he was soooooooo apologetic .. can't imagine how he must have felt knowing he'd just slapped a 'crippled old woman' ... .. 'course I saw the funny side of it ... and had tears of laughter rolling down my face which he thought were 'real' tears. Jokingly ... I told him next time he wanted to get the attention of a pretty girl could he think of something different to do to get her attention ... he went red .. she went red .. I was already red faced .. just on the one side ! Bless him he wanted to buy me chocolates to try and make up for the 'slap'.. but I said no, after all it was entirely accidental ... so in the end he 'bullied' me into accepting him paying for my shopping .. loaf of bread and a box of eggs ... and I said he could put £1 in a disability charity box if it helped him to feel better He even carried my shopping bag and saw me across the road .. and best of all ... he gave me a kiss on my 'other' cheek ! Have you ever had something strange happen to you completely by mistake !

Bless your heart. Maybe you can testify in the trial against our poor Disney pal Tigger who is being accused of punching a kid because, according to what I see on the video, it sure looks like he did it by accident when he went to turn and had his paw at the heigth of the young lad's face. Even if it wasnt planned, the family decided to run with it and start accusing poor ole Tigger of battery. Thanks for posting and thanks for being so gracious with the kid.

I am sorry about the accidental slap in the face,, but I LOVE your story. Every one involved could have walked away bitter and sour after an incident like that. I am glad you did not have "scooter" rage and slap him back. The way you handled it everyone walked away awinner and had a great day. You got a kiss on the cheek and who knows the young lady that he was waving at may be so impressed with him now that he may actually have a chance at dating her. One simple act of kindess turned the whole day around. Thank you for sharing this story with me you have restored my faith in mankind :) :) :)

If he offered to pay for your shopping Toots, what a same you didn't have a trolley full!!! Or a nice bottle of your favourite tipple. Seriously tho' there are nice people out there, rare as rocking horse whatnots but it could only happen to our Toots! Thanks for sharing, glad you saw the funny side, a lot of guys wouldn't and would have prosecuted the guy in an instant!

I would never have let him pay for a whole trolley load .. no I was quite happy with my loaf of bread and eggs .. he didn't have to do that so it was very nice .. but I know what you mean :o)

What an adorable story! I am in an ekectric wheelchair and was in the book aisle reading the preface of a book I wanted while waiting for my husband to park our van. A tall, young man was walking toward the department exit while reading a magazine and flipped over my shoulder and landed into my lap! I was leaning to one side reading so he missed my head, but it was a perfect flip! Seems everyone there saw it, but one shopper ran for the manager while I told the sputtering young man (about 22) that I always wanted men to flip for me, but that was when I was single! Everyone laughed, but the next moment we were surrounded by policemen and the manager, with my husband pushing frantically through the crowd. After taking statements from the witnesses and we were in the managers office watching the security tape, we all had another laugh as we saw the front side of the flip and the look of surprise on both our faces. Letting us go, the young man asked my husband permission to kiss my hand and he left - empty handed - from the store. he manager tooj us to a nearby restaurant and paid for our lunch. We came back and finished our intended shopping without further fanfare except for some of the witness shoppers who remained and saw us again. We stopped and laughed together over the famous 'flipping (non pun intended) wheelchair act".

That's a wonderful story .. and a great gesture by the book store manager ... You know I sometimes think with just a little bit of laughter many of the 'so called' bad things that happen to us in life could be dealt with more positively .. why fall out when with a nice smile you can defuse the situation and have a happier ending ..

once i've also been slapped in the face by a stranger, but what happened to me was not an accident! there was this crazy woman who was asking for money from bystanders. well, everybody ignored her. when she came near me, she didn't ask for any money. she just went on and slapped me! i was so shock by what happened that i couldn't react. and then after that, she just went away, muttering to herself, as if she had already forgotten what she did to me. that experience had taught me to keep my distance when i see those kind people. =)

Sounds like a nice young man, you must live somewhere other than the US, kids here are not quite like that, at least not the ones I have met. I am glad you are OK, and have a good sense of humor at the things life will toss your way!

Oh my gosh! Thank you for sharing!!! I was laughing so hard, I had tears running down my face too! And I had to stop to re-read it to my daughter and I couldn't help but laugh through reading it to her. I guess the reason why I can find it so humorous because I have had that free slap before too! And so, I know exactly what you are talking about and can picture the whole thing in my head! LOL That was great! Thanks for sharing!

wow that must have a really nice young chap to behave like that.i know most people would have gone away by saying just a simple sorry.i really wish all the young people will like be this.and i guess he wont be waving to any girls he will be seeing in the future..lol.the incident is rather very funny but yes i could imagine how the chap would have felt.i would really be very afraid if i would have slapped an old woman by mistake.i wish this kind of accident never happens to me.

Thats great to hear he handled it like that, and also that you handled it so lightheartedly. There are a lot of mean people in the world that wouldn't have been so nice about it.

I am sorry for you but its good to hear that still people care of somebody who is a stranger. Some people may just sorry and and walk out. but this guy should be really appreciated. he is a real gentle man. Nothing of this sort has happend with me. Even if it happens i will do exactly what the guy did .i.e i will say sorry and make the other person comfortable and offer my help. I appreciate the boy and ofcourse you for taking it in a humorous way. There are some people who take all this in a wrong sense and make a big deal out of it. Some people cannot forgive others even if they ask for forgiveness. God bless you.

Awww...what a story! I cannot think of anything off the top of my head that is similar to your story, though I could tell some funny ones. I think I am just blank right now. Maybe I need some candy, haha, and it will help me think. Or, I am too cold. I personally am glad the young man apologized because many times people in that situation won't. And they should!

oh God! it was really an experience, wasn't it? rather unfortunate for you for having suffered the slap though it's wonderful of you to look at the lighter side of it, and for the poor young man who must have felt horrible though he didn't do it knowingly.

Accidents happen .. it certainly wasn't intentional .. he only had eyes for the girl coming through the shop doorway .. and I am short, had I been taller it would have been a slight 'shove' on the shoulder .. No harm was done so why not have a laugh about it .. I see no point in making a big issue of something like that .. but the timing was perfect ... heheh !!!

If thereis any chance that water is going to get spilled, anywhere near me, it alwys winds up on me. Thelatest as at a store when a clerk was walking to the stockroon with a defective 4 litre jug of bottled water and we smacked right into each other at a shelf corner she appologized profusely and let me go use the hand dryer to dry my pants in the staff bathroom. That will teach me to go grocery shopping without a cart in front of me!
