Does your school education system show concern for all-round-growth of the kid?

In our country, particularly in Andhra Pradesh,Im afraid it does'nt. Not just cramming, but the whole education system disregards the value of physical exercise, educational tours, labs and libraries. Of course the pamphlets and brochures distributed by every school shows these facilities. In reality none of these features is offered on a regular or even weekly basis to growing children. All the teachers' and management's efforts are directed towards concern for extracting good marks from students in tests and examinations. Of course, there are schools for the elite, but there are very few such.

Thats absolutely true and I fully agree with you. But the states like Maharashtra , Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Chandigarh, they are really encouraging their students to take part in several extra curricular activities. All most every school is having its own sports team, They invariably participate in the styate level soprts and games, They encourage their students to participate in various Debate and elocation compititions, They encourage their students to take part in Drama and theatre. Mounteneering, Trecking, horse riding etc are common things in the schools of these states.
I am saying so confidently because my so has passed out his XII th standard from DPS school, Delhi and he diod his schooling fron DAV, Haryana.
Though I have got domicile of Maharashtra , basically I hail from AP and I know the system of education there as many of my nieces and Nephews are persueing their educaton there.
I Completed my studies right from schooling to Post graduate level in Maharashtra, and here we were encoraged to participate in all extra curricular activities ! Even in the College, though mine was a professional college, we were very much encouraged to partipate in spots and other activities ! I captained the Team of Cultural activities and I was awarded as a Best instrumental player of the University three times in row, and Our College team won three times the University trophy in a row !

I am sorry for the long silence on this issue. I have had ups and downs in my personal & professional life and only now am getting back to exchanging views on mylot! I do appear to myself like 'Rip Wan Winkle' !
I too studied in HPS, Begumpet, Hyderabad. But that was aeons ago, when it was one of the elite schools of AP, boasting of facilities that are even today not being offered by most so-called 'elite' schools!
I can understand the situation in states like Punjab and its neighbouring states, where people are more gutsy and proud and education is given more value in the factors of life.
Lucky you, for completing your higher studies in the North!

I was educated in government run school and in those days and even today they are the best run school with all aspects curricular and extra-curricular activities are included in such a way that it provides an atmosphere for the student to develop their personality, health etc. besides education.

I had a discussion with a teacher that I knew to talk to once about the pressure put on results rather than growth. I told her a story about a situation that had happened to one of my friends whilst preparing for a SAT (Can’t remember what it’s abbreviated for, although exams at around 8-9 and then again at 13-14). He had been taken out of the exam along with other people and it was widely known that the school didn’t want them lowering the grade. This teacher swore blind to me that it would never happen and didn’t happen, but the fact is that sort of behaviour goes on and I’m sure still goes on is rather serious.

actually school nowadays do not provide all round devlopment of a kid.they are mainly interested in just getting more children admitted to their schools and charge high fees.the school i studied was one of the best schools over here but the main importance was given only to studies and nothing else,no extra curricular activities at all.and because of this it produced good results and more parents admitted their children to the same school.what the school authorities and parents do not realise is that there are things that should be given as much importance as studies.
