What is wrong with typical males? Hitting women should have stiffer penalties!

I would just like to discuss how strongly everyone is against the abuse of women. I personally cound never EVER see any circumstance where I would see myself lowered to hitting a girl in any way (other than the obvious self defense of my life, but even that is pretty far fetched). Hitting women is wrong, and I think it should be treated similar to crimes like manslaughter, I truly feel that strongly. Women are so beautiful in every way imaginable, and to think someone could wish to harm that is pathetic.

Well, so far I have not ever hit a girl and have not even hit any guys since I was a kid. Evem then that was in self defense. When someone would smack me, I'd smack them back. Consequently, you can count on one hand the number of times I've had to hit someone. If they know you'll fight back, most leave you alone. As to never seeing any circumstance where I'd hit a female, well I almost did once when I was 18. She was my girl friend and just wanted to argue for some reason. So, we were arguing and it was actually over nothing. Suddenly she raised her hand to smack me. Out of instinct, I quickly raised my hand, too. Surprised by my quick response, she lowered her hand. So, I did too. Hence, I have never hit a girl, but I can imagine where I would because if she had smacked me, I'd have hit her back. Needless to say the girl friend in the story is not the wonderful woman I have been married to for 34 years.

Well, almost hitting a woman is a once in a life time thing for me, so it is kind of burned into my memory. I'm really glad it did not happen. As to my wife, the lucky woman, I promise all our friends think it I who is the lucky one.

Most woman suffer these atrocities and violence against them in silence. Most of them never voice their suffering. They tend to forgive their men folk, sometimes out of love and sometimes out of fear. No law will be able to provide relief if the sufferer himself or herself will not come up to fight their cause.

Well more needs to be done in regards to awareness then...hence I stated in another comment that us as guys need to be more aware of how fellow men treat their "loved" ones.

The punishment should fit the crime. And, in the eyes of the law gender doesn't matter. Thus, the penalty for hitting a woman isn't any higher than hitting another guy.

Good point. Hitting anyone is wrong. But I feel that women are generally physically weaker beings...do you not agree? So we have laws that protect children because of their vulnerabilities, why not make ones for women?

My Ex Husband hit me a few times in the first year and do you know why they do it? Because it makes them feel big that they are Control, he mainly did it when he was drunk but then he hurt me so bad I had to go to the Doctor that actually scared him as he was in the Army and they did not take this sort of thing lightly 25 years back I of course lied to the Doctor and said I fell down the Stairs but I did tell the Ex if he did it again I would not lie again. He did 2 more times but that was it and I had Kids then After that it was just mental abuse until I snapped after putting up with it for 21 years

i agreee with you 100%. i would never hit a woman in my life. Men that do it are nothing but b***hes, low life scum that should get thier butt beat up daily to see and like it how they feel getting hit. There is no excuse to every lay a hand on a woman. They are beautiful people in any shape or form. We need to treat our women like queens. no lie! men that hit women make me sick and they are not real men, just little boys who probably got thier butt pounded on in childhood so they take it out on woman.

How can we fix this problem though? I think as males, we need to take charge and be far more aware of these things, and pulverize anyone who promotes such crap.

I agree that hitting women is totally wrong and should never be done under any circumstances. The best thing to do if you get upset is to walk away. I would never physically nor verbally abuse a woman. Verbal abuse is really bad too and maybe even worse. Both types of abuse are extremely bad and there should be stiffer penalties.

Okay, I can tell you another hitting a woman story. This did not happen to me, but a friend of mine who at the time was a still drinking alcholic and violent when drinking. His girl friend hit him over something. He admits he deserved it. But he hit her back anyway. He did not just slap her either. He smacked her hard with his fist. End of fight, right? Nope! Her dad and 2 brothers were nearby enough to see it happen. Then he had to fight the 3 of them and was whipping their butts when the police showed up. He was obviously the one at fault and not exactly unknown to the local police. 90 days later they let him out of the county jail. The story does have a happy ending. My friend has been sober for as long as I have known him. This all happened when he was quite a bit younger. So, even when the woman hits you first, you might be better off to just apologize.

There should be more men like you. Unfortunately, I went to a counselor for a reason, and that counselor asked me...and how did he hit you...? Was it open handed? I was furious....what difference did it make? The counselor was equally afronted, but shouldn't have been. It wasn't him being hit....He insisted it mattered how the man hit me. I still to this day do not agree. I don't know about crime. If it is reported...I do not agree with if a woman doesn't want to press charges. ....If you see someone battered that should be enough proof.

I agree that hitting women is wrong. I have seen women abuse men, the men put up with it. There are not centers for abused men like there are for women. Do the men feel embaressment because they are abused?

I agree that abuse should have slightly higher punishments, maybe not manslaughter, but some sort of bigger consequences for the action, itself. However, I also think it varies on the situation, such as it being provoked. No, it's not right for a man to hit a woman, just as it's not right for a woman to hit a man, which is something that is pretty much ignored these days. I have seen women hit on a man, practically clawing his eyes out like a wildcat, and chasing him when he tried to walk away. It happens more than we think, and some women take full advantage of it. I've seen women beat on a guy without being provoked, because she can and knows the guy won't do anything about it. I do think that in cases like this (as an example), a man has a right to defend himself within reason. It's really a sticky situation because there are situations that are real, and then you have a situation where a devious woman would abuse the system out of spite, which I've also seen. I guess if it were investigated thoroughly, then sure. I would just hope that it's equal between sexes to some degree.

I think manslaugter is a little far fetched.I am totally against men hitting women as well, but there are circumstances where women hit men abusively too. Some men have to defend themselves against their violent spouse or partner. Its not just the men hitting the women anymore..It goes both ways..

Nobody has right to have indulgement in physical abuse with the anyone ..be it man or women ..what i am trying to say is that physical abuse is the most dangerous abuse under any circumstances...and strict rules and laws should be inlaid for deciding the priority of punishments to be implemented according to the crime committed!!!!!

I wish there were more men in the world like you. It's sad to say I've know a couple who wasn't.I divorced the first and the second's karma caught up with him.Now I am with a wonderful man but it was a long journey to get here.We need more understanding men or at least one's that can control thier temper.

I can't imagine hurting women with my own hands. I can't bear to do it, it's just not right.

Thanks for your nice words. In my view the men who hit women are just cowards and bullies - they hit someone smaller and weaker than themselves because they are inadequate and trying to prove something to themselves. They are despicable.

I also agree that it should be taken more seriously, maybe not like manslaughter, but it should be a lot stricter.
