i think somethings are to be taken as they are, and i dont think pizzas in any other shape will be tempting as pizz ain circular form....

well, we make pizza at home and sometimes we make it in regtangular shape. The topping counts actually, not the form

How does one make a rectangular pizza? Do you cut it to this shape after flattening it out?

pizzas were not always round, it just that while making a dough for the pizza it is easier to form a round one than in other shape. In my place, the pizza served were not round instead, a square one which fits on its box. Easier to cut and partition equally.

I disagree. There is a place called Imos in St. Louis,Mo and all of their pizzas are square. In my opinion, they serve the best pizzas.

i dont know the reason why it is shaped in a round shape maybe it is convenient to bake it that way, since it comes pre sliced it really does not matter,

While I do like round pizzas, I LOVE square pizzas. One of the pizza places here in Bakersfield, California makes them sqaure and the crust tastes extra good. Hmm... I wish I had one now... While round pizza is a tradition, don't be afraid to try a square.. :)

good observation but they are round just like rotis are because it is easier to make the dough in that shape instead of square,,isnt it...

Have you ever made pizza? There are two ways of baking one, either on a stone surface (or cookie sheet) or in a pan. Those baked on flat surfaces are usually tossed and spun, beginning as a round ball of dough and being flattened due to tension and inertia. Pizza pans are circular for the same reason pie pans are; it's difficult and time consuming to get stretchy dough to conform to a corner without bunching it up or pulling it too thin.

I have seen square pizzas many times. I'm not sure why they are traditionally round, perhaps because they are called pizza pies? Or maybe the pizza pie name developed BECAUSE they are round? I am sensing a real "which came first, the chicken or the egg" kind of thing here! And on whether or not the pizza is as tempting if it's not round... it could be any shape in the world to me and I would still be tempted. I love pizza!

Pizzas are not always round. I have seen square ones and rectangular ones. They taste just as nice.

you can find pizza in many shapes but the main reson of making it round is because when you spin it its get bigger which is make it easy (you can see NEWTON law1 for more information and the reason why its get bigger ;) ) :D
