A 28 year old mom of three dies doing a contest at a radio station, after drinking a gallon of water witout going to the bathroom she died 4 hours later at home. She said to one of the radios supervisors that she was on her way home and her head was hurting her real bad,and she felt as if she had to throw up. You are not suppose to hold your bladder and these people did just that for a game and one of them lost their life. Would you risk your life for a game? Would you drink water and not go to the bathroom? After drinking all that water she only got Justin Timberlake tickets, the radio personal was told that these people could die and they said we know but the signed a release form so if someone died they won't be responsible. The three radio people got fired along with 6 others. What do you think about this? Do you think criminal charges should be filed even though she signed the release form?

That's a new one. Didn't really know you could die like that. But how did she manage to hold it in for so long? I mean, when you gotta go, you really gotta go!

Yes, but still, at some point, biology kicks in! How does one get intoxicated by water anyway? Wouldn't her bladder just burst first?

These people make a choice to participate in these contests, frat initiations etc. therefore I don't think they should be prosecuted. I opened a discussion a few days ago regarding water intoxication and that it can kill babies.

I would not take part in the contest. First, I know the dangers in overloading on water..I know that water poisoning can occur. It's just not worth it. Secondly, criminal charges should be filed. Them getting fired and having their show cancelled just isn't enough. It's completely wrong.

i heard this news from my classmate too, but i never got the full detail. Those who organized that game should be charged too, you cant just put up a contests without safety precautions or something else. They need to be sued.

All I can say is, she must have drank an awful lot of water. There is no way I would risk my life for a game. I wonder if they all knew how dangerous it was? I think they should be held accountable in some way, even if it is only a settlement. No one made her do it.

Yes they knew it was dangerous, a lady called in and told them that someone could die, they laughed and said it didn't matter, they signed releases.

I've heard this story from somewhere. That is just terrible. This new game is just driving people crazy. That radio station shouldn't do things like that without having to do research first about it.

wow that's a really sad story. i definitely wouldnt do something like that. that is ridiculous! i guess you dont really realize the risks when you get into something like that, but the risks should have been considered before the contest even started. who thinks of things like that?

I don't think charges should be filed. Everyone has a mind of their own. No one made her do it, that was her choice.

if she didnt know the risks involved with a stunt like this she should have researched it. if it was me i would have seen what the risks where before i went into a competition of this sort and before i signed a release form. though she may not have known the problems that can be associated with this sort of thing she should have done her research before hand. in addition, the radioshow should not have made a game lie this, they made the people sign release form which to me shows they knew that there was a risk to the people taking part, its a very irresponsible thing to do.

Thats horrible and all she won were some petty prizes. The only problem is the radio people wont be held with charges nor will the defendants win. Some people are so crazy over small things they will do anything

Obviously the station knew the consiquences. They had the forms to sign. THey are using the dj's as a scape goat. I would never do anything that would harm me.

Why would they even want to have such a contest where it could risk a person's life! If I were that lady, when I read the paper you had to sign I would have walked away right then and there and reported it. In a way, since the people signed something saying that the radio station would not be responsible for anything if something were to happen, they shouldn't be able to press charges against them. BUT, morally, they are wrong for even coming up with that contest!

I read about this in a swedish magazine today and they said that someone actually called in and warned them and they had them all to sign a paper that said that In case of anything going wrong they would not be held responsible so i think even though criminal charges would be right they will not be judged... I donĀ“t know how it workes over there but I do belive that the paper would be the 1st evidence and the strongest. However I do find this story very sad and I do wish that the people would have been more informed about the risks!"

Hi Justme I think I replied to another topic on this. But I think it was dreadfully irresponsible of the radio station to run a competition like this. In fact......I can't believe that they someone could come up with such a ludicrous ridiculous idea. And, yes, I think criminal charges should be brought because they should have consulted with medical practitioners before running with anything like this.

Oh my goodness this is terrible. I wouldn't do stuff like this just for a game to win money or prizes. I wouldn't do things like this at all. I can't believe these radio people knew that people could die from this and instead of not doing it they just have them sign a release? I'm glad they got fired and yes I do think criminal charges should be filed even if they signed a release. People do such stupid things for money. I watch it on t.v all the time where they do life threatening things for money or just because they wanted to be on t.v. Life is worth so much more than some tickets to a concert.

First of all, my sympathy to the family who lost a dear for just a game, but I hope no one will be offended. All reality games is very very risky and sometimes accidents happens. For me that 28 years old mother of three should not risk everything for the sake of a prize. She knows her body the limitations and the capacity of food or liquid substance she can manage. She went desperate to win the prize and she sign a no liability - release form. It's sad but this happen. No one is to be blame but the woman. She decide to go enter the contest knowing the risk, plus she did not think that it would affect her children in case something might go wrong.
