Are the Lenovo Thinkpads as good as the IBM Thinkpads of the past? I realize that Lenovo bought IBM, so its probably the same thing.. but I was wondering if quality remained the same... perhaps it got better? maybe worse?

I think it's the same. Is just because Lenovo aquisition on IBM. so that they Lenovo making the N series for offering interesting prices behind the feauture. But for Thinkpad series i think the quality is the same. did you notice that warranty between lenovo and lenovo thinkpad different. ussualy lenovo thinkpad offers 3 years warranty meanwhile lenovo just offering 1 years warranty

I agree with you! Warranty of IBM is perfect.

I have never used an older IBM made thinkpad so I cant be completely sure. the thinkpad R61 that I have is really solid and reliable and comfortable to use. IBM did help lenovo in the change over so they must be really close if not of the same quality. I have heard a few bad thing about the lenovo branded computers but I think the Thinkpads are just as good as ever as far as I can see. The main reason I got a thinkpad is the durability and overall user comfort it stays really cool and is just all around a great computer to use. Compared to all of the laptops I have used this thinkpad R61 is the coolest, quietest, fastest, most comfortable laptop of them all. I have used HP, Dell, Acer, Toshiba, and a few wierd no named ones that friends have had. In my honest opinion for an everyday average computer thats going need to last and take quite a bit of abuse a thinkpad is a MUST.

Man ThinkPad rocks . ! With the specification of ThinkPad Lenovo could not cut price hence it came out with its parallel line of Lenovo laptops which could compete on price. while ThinkPad still competes on quality.

Well, i use thinkpad from 5 years ago, started with R series and T series. Later on, i started to recommend lenovo Y and N Series to my client. So many complaint came up from my client using this lenovo :(, most of the time this lenovo become not responding, jam and hangs. I tried to update latest drivers from lenovo web site, but still not helping. My latest experience was with Lenovo Y410 series, hang up frequently, and G400?? it was blue screen easily, and could not use projector with vga output port :((( Thinkpad is the best machine, and yet pure lenovo manufactured series can not compete with thinkpad yet
