In the campus and in the workplace, we see people who easily get along with their same-region classmates/ colleagues compared to the rest of the classmates/colleagues. They sometimes speak in their vernacular even with other friends around. But then I've also seen some same-region persons who fall out for the smallest reasons. I guess it's a universal thing. We are drawn to people with whom we can share a common interest or history or anything. Not just Filipinos. I suppose Mexicans in New Jersey (or anywhere!) would be drawn to each other than to the Americans.

i agree with you on that one, but i hope that as filipinos here in our country we should stop being regionalistic and stand as one because we cannot become one of the first world if we are divided. thanks

i think so, its because of our dialect, but we can be one if we really wanted too, but sometime, the people of metro manila are sometimes discriminating from those who are from the provincem and it also happend in the states, usually, tagalog speaking people there do not like to mingle visayan people.

It can be since you can understand each other. Although we have a national language and you can use also english, but it is comfortable to use your own dialect. The dialect itself can relate to region. You can express yourself better if you are using your own dialect.

I regionalistic in a sense that I really fight out for someone who say something about our fellow Ilonggos , but it doesnt mean that I don't care for some people living in different provinces of our country. I am pro Filipino and I don't care if what region you from or which place you belong , as long as you are a Filipino. I think Filipino must join hand together as a whole anyway we are living in only one country which is Philippines.

yes that's what we filipinos should do. join hands and make our country a better place to live right. we filipinos are very smart and that we are capable of reviving our country. i think we just have to set aside ourselves(personal interests) and start thinking as a whole nation!!!

I guess we do have that kind of an attitude. Its because of language or local dialects that we have I believe. You could see that mostly here in Manila since you can see fellow Visayan or other ethnic group together when they are not in their own places.

Yes, I do thing that Filipinos are regionalistic in nature. I have proven that myself when I was in Abu Dhabi. There are plenty of Filipinos and every Independence Day celebration the Filipino community get together but to my surprise, it is not just one organization in a foreign land but there are plenty of organizations on regional basis like there are cebuanos, bicolanos, Ilocanos, Etc. Etc. I think Filipinos are distinctive in character as to where one came from. One can identify who are "bisaya" or "tagalog" character when it comes to coping with pressures at work. So, I would say Filipinos are regionalistic in nature.

I think we filipinos are regionalistic. Though we live in the same country there are still practices or attitude that is common among everyone in the region. just like your example visayan will be in a way closer to another visayan because they speak the same language and they can actually share a lot of things that may be common to both of them. this is also alike with the same regions.

This is quite true because I've noticed that when I met fellow Filipinos here in the US..the first thing they will ask is where you from and if you are not from the same area, they tend to look down upon you, which is very surprising to me...even my husband noticed it. But if I met somebody that comes from the same region as I am or can speak the dialect...it will be more of a pleasant meeting.

I can say we are regionalistic because we have a lot of dialects, different beliefs, cultures and practices. People tend to be closer to someone who shares something common with themselves. But hey, there are still a lot where all Filipinos have in common: their friendliness, hospitality, being helpful, and they know how to empathize with others, and it doesn't matter if you're a filipino or not :)
