Basic Language of Designing Field

Auto-cad language is the basic language of designing field in the mechanical engg. This language is tough but not impossible.

Can you elaborate something more on its application part so that a common person can understand it well.How it differs from simple drawing on scale made traditionally by all so called engineers?
