you have to go thru an academy usually you are put through one when you are hired with a dept. a degree in criminal justice usually helps, this is what my brother told me he works part time with them

First before you even contact anyone I personally would go to a local college and take the BAT(basic ability test).I dont know how much it will cost for you but in florida its arround 40 dollars.Its real easy basically common sense stuff.I just took it and am goin into corrections.As for anything else Im not too sure.
