What would you do if you had a accident in a friends car that you were driving?

It wasn't your fault and the driver that hit you was charged and ticketed. The damage to the rear bumper is minimal and the insurance company has cut the registered owner a check, he has decided not to get the car fixed and keep the insurance money. Would you want any of the money or would you let him keep it all? Would you insist that he just get the car fixed? Would you turn him into the insurance company for pocketing the money?

Did you have to pay for the excess to the insurance company or did he? I wouldn't care as long as I didn't have to pay anything especially if it wasn't my fault.

I guess it just depends on how strongly you feel about them doing the right thing and how it will affect your friendship. If it was me I would say sumpin and if they were a true friend then they would accept what you had to say without much of an arguement.

Well, your friend can do what he want to do with that money but it better to use that money to get the new car. Im sure keeping the money sound good to him right now but he have to buy a car soon or later and it will save his time and money if he use the insurance money and use it for the car.

The car is an 2006, so its new and you can't even really tell where it was hit. My husband says to let him do what he wants with the money. I just wanted everyone elses opinion.

I would say it is up to them what they do with the money, and I dont see where I would be entitled to any of it.

I wouldn't have had a problem with him keeping the money if he had done all the leg work. I went to get the estimates, I talked to the other guys insurance company. Then on top of the whole thing, he asked my hubby to buff out the scratches and didn't even offer any money.

Just let it be. The accident was not your fault. The insurance paid for the damage. It is up to the owner of the car to get it fixed. If they choose not to that is their decision. I don't believe it to be a requirement to fix any damage to a car once the check is issued. It is required that the person make compensation for the damage that incurred.

It was the friends car and insurance in the accident so why should you as the driver get any money he receives from the insurance company. I say let the friend do with what he wants with the insurance ck. If he doesn't want to get it fixed so be it.

Being that i use to work in auto claims, The owner of the car can do whatever he wants with the money if it is for his car. IF you were injured in the accident then you should report that to his insurance carrier and then they can go after the guy who was at fault and you can get a settlement but if you were not hurt, you have to allow the owner of the car do what he wants with the money for his car. Not much else you can do about that sorry!

I wouldn't want any of the money. I would feel bad. I would tell them that they should get the car fixed. They shouldn't get gain off of something that isn't right. Either way I think KARMA will get to them, ha ha.

It's up to him, I don't think I'd turn him in. I would probabl y feel a bit bad though if he cheated on them like that.

This is a hard question but I think I would let him keep it, since it was still your fault for the wreck.

Why should you get the money if it was his car? As for what he does with the money... it's really none of your business. Once the insurance company gives it to him, it's his money.
