Saltwater fish tank?

You should make sure that your algae problem isn't coming from something you are not doing. My parents had a freshwater tank and they couldn't get rid of the algae. When they setup the tank, they didn't even think about how much sun it got (sunlight = rapid algae growth) and the realized that was the problem, they started closing the blinds when the sun shone on the tank. You may also want to see if there is a certain fish you can buy or chemicals. I know these exist for fresh water tanks, not sure about saltwater. You may be getting algae from your water source. I had a friend that was getting her saltwater from a local aquarium shop and always had algae. She switched the shop where she was getting the water from and her problem disappeared.

We had a saltwater tank a while back but now it is long gone. I am not sure if ther eis a good solution in saltwater aquariums othe rthan just keeping on top of scrubbing it. Good luck!

We were debating on getting one. We have freshwater: one cichlid and one Tropical. We still want to have a salt water, but we're afraid it will take too much work to keep it up.

I agree with the sunlight post. Also, how long are the lights on in the tank? Usually it's not recommended more then 8 hours. Also, if you used sand, you need to get live sand or some certain kind of sand. Some sand used for freshwater tanks will cause an algae bloom in a salt water tank. I'm not real familiar with salt water tanks, I experimented with one, didn't work for me-tank was too small. Also, I believe if you use a UV filter, it will kill the algae and other unwanted organisms. Think it works for salt water tanks also-but you need to double check that. Oh, and they're expensive lol...

I've never had a saltwater tank, just a freshwater one. And I've never been successful with that!

hummm never heard of it or tried it ...and i dont think that salt water fishes survives for a long time
