Water saving ideas

In Australia we are in severe drought conditions. We have made some adjustments to divert shower and washing machine water outside and into our old child's swimming pool. Can you think of: a) Ways to catch/save more water. b) What to do with all this water we are collecting. Thanks.

There is one way to save a lot of water. You tell our stupid politicians to stop bringing 1000 new immigrants into Sydney every week. They are the ones using the water. Nothing to do with the drought. The Sydney dam was build to sustain 3 million people. We now have 4 million people. And the NSW government has just annonced its new plan for increasing Sydney population to 5 million by 2020. But did the NSW government do anything to solve the water shortage? NO! Politicians are people who cannot get a job because they failed every subject in high school.

I agree 100% - same problem in Melbourne and they won't build another dam but more immigrants every day.

When The drought hits here, and we aren'tallowedto water the lawns and gardens regularly, I tend to take baths instead of showers and collect the water to throw on my garden, its not going to hurt the plants but will actually kill off some of the pests because of the soap. If you have grass or plants a good soaking will also prevent fires, but I don't think its agood idea to usewater that has detergent added, since they aren't good for anything alive.

A bucket in the shower will do the same thing, and using shower gel instead of soap will not only be better for the garden, but will also keep your shower screens free from soap scum, and therefore use less water to clean them.

we also recycle our washing mashine water. u can also put in rain water tanks and get rain water. u dont have to spend 1000s of dollars on good expencive tanks when u can pick up ex chemical tanks that r 1000 litres for about 100 bucks each we brought 3 for home and they r working good. with this little bit of rain wev been having in melbopurne the last couple of days 1 tank is about half full. also go to the ur water main at the front and slightly close it that brings in alittle less water, but i dont really no if we r saving.

Yes I know it is difficult to save water but as I am an Aussie as well I save water by washing up only once a day if possible and using a bowel of water this way I save water. You ask what we can do with all this water we are collecting well you can water the garden with it if you have one or wash you car with it thanks for your discussion.
