http://www.meetin.org is another place. You dont have to pay anything on meetin.org to host activities like you have to on meetup.com. It is arranged by cities.

I think there's this site called meetup.com or something to that effect where you find people with like interests in your area and then you arrange a get together. So it's the internet connecting people in real life.
