I have a 13 week old min pin and he's so hard to potty train. Any suggestions?

I had a really hard to train min pin and until she was 2 she was awful. The only thing that seemed to work with her was using a litter box like a cat.

Wow I've heard of people using the litter boxes and potty pads for dogs but I've never tried!

I wrote an article on how to potty train a puppy in just a few days. If you would like to read it here is the link http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/79206/puppy_potty_training_101.html The main things to remember are: Consistency Schedule

13 week old seems like a good age to start training. There's no hard and fast rule on how to potty train your dog. Some methods work and some don't. It's best you borrow some books or do an internet search to look at the various methods, it's probably too long to type out all of them here. For now, confine him to a small area to lessen your load of cleaning up. But bring him to his potty area often and start to associate the place with pooping and peeing. Lots of praise and some treats works wonders. Good luck!

Crate training, its tried and true. You must be firm and ignore his whining and crying and he will get used to it. Also remember at this age he can't hold it very long, only about 3 hours at a time, so he must go out every three hours round the clock. Don't use puppy pads, they only train your dog to pee in your house.

I have toy chihuahuas and they too are hard to potty train. I tried usin puppy pads but that didn't work. After I got my pomeranian I looked up potty trianing techniques. THey suggested kenneling. I tried it and it works. Dogs don't usually potty where they sleep so I kennel them at night and let them out in the morning. I gradually let them out of their kennels at different times and they would let me know if they had to go outside. The more time that has gone by the fewer accidents we have had in the house.

Thanks so much Raven. I've never tried the potty pads but kenneling does work well!
