Does TV influence public opinion on gay issues?

Studies show that people's opinions on gay and lesbian lifestyles, etc. are often molded by what they see on TV shows such as Q- Eye for the Straight Guy (myLot blocks the Q word) and Will & Grace.
Do you think this is true? Do television shows featuring gay characters influence your opinions about gays in general?
