can someone explain to me Arranged Marriage ceremony?

I noticed that there are a lot of people here on MyLot from India. They speak of arranged marriages. i am curious when and how this happens. Do the parents arrange it at any age, or when the child is looking for a lover? How does this work?

i would like to know how it works! I mean i am 48 and still single, wish someone would have arranged somebody for me. It kind of sounds so easy. There is no anxiety of dating and searching for years. no singles bars, seriously, if the parents are smart and know their kids, why not?
Anyway it has been my experience to see that real love grows over the years, romantic love fades... to think that ancestors from a thousand years ago figured this out by trail and error

Arranged marriaged is a marriage arranged by the parents of the boy and the girl.Both the parents search for a girl/boy matching the profile of the boy/girl comprising of matching Horoscopes, education background,family ancestory,native place,job etc.After chosing the girl, the boy's parents get in touch with the girl's parents and arrange for meeting of the boy and the girl at the girl's place. Elders discuss on the time and details of the marriage.This is prevalentin most Asian countries.This was also prevalent in western countries in olden days as depicted in the movie The Fidler on Rooftoop.
