want to help a child

i want to help an orphan child to grow up, study and excel, to achieve his goal in life. however, due to lack of social support at home, i cannot adopt one. but i very much yearn to help atleast one child in unfortunate circumstances, in some real way. can you give me some leads? any organisatinos in India that you know of - genuine ones, because i don't want my money wasted or misused, i would like it to go into deserving hands. thanks
