In Bangor, Maine, I am told, a new law goes into effect. If you are smoking with kids in the car, the police will stop you and issue a ticket. You get fined. The inten is to protect our kids from dangerous second hand smoke. Does this new law go to far?

i am from the philippines but i haven't heard about this law yet. what i know of that in our city, noone is allowed to smoke in public places. if they get caught, they get to have a fine and a lecture for a day in the city mayor's office. which i find really good. i hope that such law will really make parents be more cautious about their children's health. that law is really a good one to implement.

Here it is very controvesrsial. Most people worry about the curtailment of their civil liberties. This has to be weighed against the right of the choldren who have no control over what adults do. I don't smoke, so I already have a bias. However, I do believe in civil liberties in as much as they do not infringe on other's rights.
