Is your land lord a slum lord? Mine is. It sucks, but my rental history is bad and it was the only place I could get but he charges me $750/month for a 2 bedroom house and it's not even that great of a house. It's old, there's a crack in one of the windows, and the electric in the porch light doesn't even work. Sheesh. I can't wait until my credit is cleaned up so I can MOVE.

As a landlord, he should be responsible and fix the items that need repair. Depending on where you live, $750 is not bad for a two bedroom house. Unfortunately though when your credit is bad, is does limit your choices.

$750 is unreasonable for what we have. If it were a nice "suburbany" house I'd understand. But this house is at least 20 years old. I have told him about the repairs but so far it hasn't gotten fixed. I owe him a little bit of money (until tax season) so I've been trying not to pester him. I am trying to find a place for $600/mo but this is a college town and it makes the rent go up b/c the college kids have daddy's money to play with.

That's awful! Have you put in any requests for maintenance? I've been fairly lucky with the places I've rented. Only one of the owners (the last house I was in) refused to do any work on the house. It desperately needed it! Their loss, as they lost a good tennant who kept the place clean and always paid their rent on time. Landlords need to realise that if they don't put any effort in then they're going to have a hard time finding and keeping the good tennants.

I completely understand! He has another house, which is split into 4 apartments, and it's $400/month but you have to share a bathroom with a guy from Nigeria who doesn't kno how to clean (and when he does, he mixes bleach and ammonia, he almost killed us!!!). We moved out of that place (the apartment) and into this house b/c we couldn't stand it anymore but still couldn't get another landlord b/c of my credit. I am hoping Uncle Sam pays well next year and I'm going to be doing lots of overtime between now and then and then hopefully we can move into either a cheaper or better place.
