A nontraditional diet approach may be right for some people with diabetes who also have high blood levels of triglycerides (the storage form of fat) and low blood levels of "good" HDL cholesterol.
In some people, a high-carbohydrate diet raises triglycerides and lowers HDLs, which is undesirable because this may increase heart-disease risk. A compromise diet consists of cutting back on total carbohydrates and replacing some of those calories with fat, on the condition that those extra fat calories come from monounsaturated fats, such as olive and canola oils.
The best advice for you is to be sure your health care provider monitors your blood lipid (fat) levels if you are on a high-carbohydrate diet and pays particular attention to your triglyceride and HDL levels. That way, if they move in the wrong direction, the two of you can decide if you should cut back on carbohydrates and increase your intake of monounsaturated fats.

Well, that is sure something. I will keep that in mind when the occasion arises.
