Is a home-based job a dead end job?

Many people are trying on homebased jobs because they're very convenient, you don't have to work with a boss around you, you undergo less pressure, you can go straight to bed after work and some homebased jobs don't have to make you pay taxes. You don't have to spend for your lunch because you don't have to eat out. But what's next? after all the comfort that home could bring for your job, what would happen to your social life? Could a person grow his/her career in a homebased job? Would another employer accept a person who had an experience working at home? They say that 1 out of a million opportunities could be out there waiting for you. Should we brush these opportunities off in place of a homebased job? I would like to hear your opinions in this, because i am one of those people working at home, and I'm also concerned with my future career, and the quality of life that i'm living. Is there life after a homebased job?
