I must say, one of my favorites was seeing someone's bumpersticker that said "hang up and drive". Then I pulled up along side him. He was steering with his leg while eating a burger with one hand and dipping fries with his other. the sauce was being held by the passenger. lol

I live in Connecticut and talking on the cell phone and driving has been illegal for some time now. I think it is about a $100. fine if caught. They also made it so any distractions like eating or so on will get you in trouble. And I have recently heard of an uncoming ban on smoking ciggs while driving... To me it's getting out of control.

they should be yes or rather than ban make it compulsorty to use a hands free kit, in this country they fined people if they were caught using their mobile phones in their car but not everyone gets caught. recently they changed the law so if you get caught using one its an instant fine and 3 points on your licence so its a bit more harsh now and i hope less people will use them now.

I totally agree that they should be banned. Will it stop all the accidents??? Of course not, but it will help the incidence of 'road rage' I think. lolololol One other thing I find extreemly distracting and annoying while driving is the 'boom boom' coming from very loud music in other cars. We live on a much used hi-way and really-----I can hear them from at least a mile away. I truely think these kinds of things speak to a basic "me first" mentality so prevelent in the world today. So many show no concern about others needs or comfort.

I think eliminating that "boom boom" of the bass music would go a long way towards reducing road rage. lol

Here in the state of KY, they are. If you are caught driving and using a cell phone you can be pulled over and receive a nice ticket for it. I think it's a good law. I hate driving behind someone yapping on those things. You can tell before you even get up close to look at them. They are swerving, hitting brakes, and/or trying to come over in your lane while you are next to them, because they are too distracted to check before making a lane change.

lol See here's what is funny to me. I have noticed I seem to be one of the few that actually uses his mirrors and turn signals if I am using one. I still pay attention to what I'm doing. But again, most don't. The thing that is weird to me is, I had an experience where I was in the right lane on the freeway, doing the speed limit, and a guy came up behind me started flashing his brights at me and tailgating me. There were 4 other lanes of traffic open and he's harassing me. Then he pulls along side me and makes a gesture about me using the phone, and I'm thinking uh, what does me using a phone have to do with your piss poor driving? I have a feeling we won't see them banned up here because of the concentration of business. I don't really care one way or the other. I just figure if they do ban them, then they need to ban smoking, putting on makeup, reading, drinking, and eating while driving. lol

I use a PDA/Smartphone holder. That way, I can have both hands taking care of the driving stuff.

In Denmark you are given a ticket if you talk on a cell phone without a ear pice. As long as you can keep both hands on the wheel then they say you should be okay. But then again, you take your hands of the wheel when you drink coffee in the car or smoke in the car. So should they bane this too?

Cell phones must be banned from The Republic (the imaginary perfect world which I wrote about in the eponymous treatise). They have to be seen as the sole agency that corrupts and makes chines clay of young mind and old minds. So, treat them as rats that would infest you with the plague virus, which is much more dangerous than the HIV virus, which is the greatest invention of my era. Cell phones breed self-importance. Ban them altogether! :)

I think while people are driving it should be banned. It shouldn't be up to their ears because then they are holding the phone. Also not on speaker because then they are listening to the person and not paying attention to driving. If the person is just sitting and waiting in traffic, then I think it's okay.

When it comes to taxes, everyone says "Less government!" For everything else, they seem to want to regulate all things they don't agree with. Let's ban bad breath and rude people and smoking in your car and people who don't know where the heck they are going so they crawl along in front of you looking for street signs during peak traffic. Cell phones should be used responsibly. People who don't should pay the price just as someone who drinks irresponsibly does. If you cause an accident, then you pay the piper. Frankly, I am tired of these childish laws and rules that are made to protect us from ourselves.

I have two thoughts about this. I do agree that cell phones should not be used when you are driving as it does take away from your attention. Saying that,I realize that people lose their attention when switching radio stations or music, taking a sip from a bottle ,talking to someone in the back seat........ What should be allowed when driving and what should not be?Do we want more government control?

I don't even drive my electric wheelchair while talking on my cell phone. I don't see why you would need to use one while driving your car unless you were having an emergency. I think banning talking on phones while driving is a great idea!

I think using a phone with out a handsfree set up should be banned. I think losing one hand while your driving makes itj ust as dangerous as actually talking to someone, especially if you have a manual transmission where youll have no hands on the wheel while you shift.

Cellphones shouldn't be banned while driving. It's however more important to emphasize on the use of hands free kits so that you don't have one hand on the phone and the other on the wheel. Second is discipline. If you want to make a call but the call isn't important then just wait till you're off the car or off the road.

It is against the law to hold a phone and drive here in the UK. This doesnt mean that people dont stop doing it, I see loads of people with a phone glued to their head every day
