Childrens' Language Difficulties in School. Are They Helped??

I am interested in what is happening to children in school that are experiencing difficulties in their Speech, Language and Communication needs.
The way most children are taught in schools today is by teacher's asking questions and children just responding with what the teacher is expecting the answer to be.
There is a lack of discussions within classroom settings that encourage children to critically think, problem solve and socialise through conversation.
If your child is experiencing these problems I would be grateful if you could discuss this and tell me what interventions are being provided for your child to develop.
I am attempting to research Classroom talk and how it is affecting children who need help with developing their linguistic skills.
I would be really grateful to any parents or educators that could provide me with some personal insight into this issue.
Thank you.

I wish I knew more as well. With my son, CJ having Autism he can't speak well and they are not doing enough at school for him. I know that for a fact. He has a personal aide and he does have speech therapy but therapy is only a few mins. a week. How is he suppose to speak well and participate in class with the 'regular' students if they don't give him enough time to learn.
I'm going to check out ChaCha as well and if you happen to find out anything that could help me as well, I'd appreciate a heads-up. Thanks

There is a great system that is used where I work called PECS-Picture Exchange Communication System.
It can be a slow and quite intensive process but I have seen autistic children who have no communication use the pictures to communicate what they want.
It also has developed their speech and alot do make good progress.
You should ask at your sons school if they have heard of it. I am sure there are courses you can go on, but I don't know about in America.
Here is a website for you to read about it.

I hope it helps.

I wish I could help you, but I don't know where you can turn
for help. But I do have a suggestion that might help, there is a new search engine called ChaCha, they have guides that help you with your inquiries, maybe they could supply you with some helpful info...Good Luck...SS
