Do you/will you send your kids to summer camp?

I've never sent my kids to a summer camp, however I'm considering sending my oldest two kids to camp this year for kids who play string instruments. My daughter, who is 12, plays the violin and my son, who will be 11 in July, plays the cello. I think they'd really enjoy the camp and it would be educational. They've both expressed inerest in the camp.
So, do you send you kids to summer camp and, if so, what kind of camp do you send them to?

No I don't send mine to camp. I would have to get to know the adults who are going to be around my children. I keep them in my sight always. Maybe when they are teenagers, it might be different.

I completely understand you're wanting to get to know the adults who will be around your children. You can never be too careful these days. The camp I'm considering sending my kids to does FBI background checks on all their employees, so that makes me feel much more comfortable. I also feel better knowing that both my kids will be there to look out for each other. I think I'd be much more nervous if I was just sending one of them alone.

I think summer camp is a great experience for kids. I have been a counsellor at a summer camp. For the first couple of days they are really homesick, but, when they start making friends, and enjoying activites, they have a ball. It's a time where kids make friends that they will have for a lifetime.

It sounds like a great experience for them! We live in a big city and while there is a lot for kids to do much of it isn't educational and can lead to trouble. At the ages my oldest two kids are at I'm looking for something to keep them occupied during the summer that won't lead to bad influences or trouble. And since they both love being in the orchestra I thought this was the best choice.
